| limona's Full Review: Baby Trend Single Snap-N-Go Model# 1305 |
In anticipation of my first baby, I spent many painstaking hours trying to figure how to give my child the best of everything without breaking the bank. I will never forget my first journey to a baby superstore. I spent ten minutes trying to figure out how to take a Combi car seat off of its base before I finally located a salesperson to show me how it was done. You can only imagine how overwhelmed I was when I saw the stroller section! Everyone was yapping to me about expensive travel systems, and I felt so lost and confused.
And then something happy occurred...
I saw the Snap N Go.
I liked it from the moment my procrastinating soul laid eyes on it. It symbolized freedom, because for a mere $50, I could buy the Snap and Go and then not have to think about strollers again until my little one had outgrown her car seat and I was ready to make an educated decision. The Graco Snugride snapped right on the base. I was sold. I registered for it right away. My husband was skeptical until he saw that the Baby Bargains book agreed with me. He did insist we also try the Graco version of the Snap N Go, since it was ostensibly designed for Graco car seats. The Graco version cost $10 more, and I actually preferred the Baby Trends model after pushing both through the aisles.
My Snap N Go was purchased in February of 2007. It has a black plastic frame with two cupholders and a little lidded storage compartment. The car seat rests on plastic tabs at the front and snaps securely onto a plastic bar at the back. Because the seat only rests on the front tabs and does not fasten to them, I always make sure to fasten the black belt that goes over the carseat to keep it securely on the base. I am comfortable that the system is safe and secure.
I have used the Snap N Go daily with the Graco Snugride car seat for four months. I take a daily one-mile morning walk and run various errands. The Snap N Go has performed admirably in these tasks, and my daughter loves our walks. Though I registered for the Snap N Go on a whim, I would register for it again if I had things to do over.
What I like:
- It's not too heavy; it weighs approximately 12 pounds.
- It folds easily. I am a 105 pound, 5'4" weakling, and I am able to hold the baby carrier in one hand and fold the stroller with the other. I am also able to lug the baby carrier and the stroller up and down my front steps with relative ease for my daily walk.
- It steers well. I find it to be quite maneuverable, and I am able to steer with one hand when needed. It has double wheels in the front and single wheels in the back. The wheels are large enough that I am able to push comfortably on bumpy sidewalks and steer through the occasional suburban lawn. It is great in the mall.
- It is sturdy. I have had no problems with wobbling and it feels substantial when I put the car seat in. I am confident my car seat fits securely.
- It has brakes. There is a foot-activated brake for each back wheel that easily toggles up and down.
What I dislike:
- The basket is roomy but inconvenient. I generally have to put things in the basket below before I put the car seat on-- and I take off the car seat in order to extricate my diaper bag.
- The handles are not quite high enough for my 6' husband, and they are not adjustable. While the Snap N Go has higher handles than many of the strollers I tested, my husband must hold the handles a bit awkwardly in order to keep from kicking the wheels. This is no big deal for small errands, but makes it less than fun for him to walk long distances with the Snap and Go.
- I have not had success with the cupholders. My cups always wobble. Maybe mine just are not a standard size? This is a small quibble, since I rarely take a cup of anything with me on our walks.
- It does not fit all car seats, so make sure you verify that your car seat will "snap" in. I first tried to snap a Combi car seat in, and it did not fit. The Graco Snugride snapped in easily, though.
- It only comes in black, which does not match my car seat at all. This is a small quibble, I know, but the vain part of me wished it matched just a little better.
In all, I am quite fond of the Snap N Go. I have found it to be an excellent value, and would recommend it as a solid travel system alternative.
