Everyone Should Read Your Review Twice (Reply to this comment)

Becky-

Obviously I can easily relate to everything in your review and I agree wholeheartedly with all of your advice ranging from early detection to maintaining a support group. I don't know where I'd be without my wonderful family, fantastic friends, and caring community (Epinions)!

Most of us don't give cancer too much thought until it touches us so I'm so glad you are getting the word out.

And thank you for mentioning my situation specifically- one can never receive too many cards and letters of encouragement!...Mark

for sharing your story with us. I had written a while ago on the importance of women doing monthly self checks for breast cancer having lost a dear friend to this disease. Since then, I have learned that men can get breast cancer too, although it is rarer.

Maybe reading these comments will help you to draw strength as you continue your battle toward 5 years cancer free. We are rooting for you and I know that is a milestone year! Continued good luck!!!

for sharing your story...It's so important to get these tests done, all of them.. I had a scare last year in regards to my kidneys, after 3 different kinds of tests, thankfully I was one of the lucky ones. I also had to have a hysterectomy 12 years ago but then again I was lucky and the tumor was benign..

I'm praying for Mark and send you my warmest and most sincere thoughts that your recovery will remain just that, a continued recovery.

:)

I had a scare one time where all I heard was "cancer"... luckily, I was one of those that had "something" on the slide. Phew. I make sure never, ever to miss an annual.

Cancer runs in my family. My father had lung cancer, my mom had 2 bouts with breast cancer, and the list goes on. Surviving is the key, wanting to survive helps a lot too.

Thank you for sharing this story with us, and for opening yourself up to us like this. I am so glad you beat it! Good for you!!! :)

Another Great Review... (Reply to this comment)

...on a very important topic. There is nothing that will make people appreciate their health so much as ill health.
My hubby Payso is going in for another brain surgery on the 10th of September...but I am so grateful that it is not a cancerous tumor...just a stubborn one!
Keep up the great writing, and continued good health to you....kath

Thanks for bringing up them men! I certainly didn't mean "exclude" them in them in this, I was just going off of my own experience.

Personally, everyone should take their annual checkups seriously. If you do, and something comes back abnormal, it's much easier to fight it.

I'm so glad to hear your father has beaten it twice. And you are right, even the "supporters" need help too. Thanks!

Cancer screening is a very important topic, and I hope your thoughts encourage others to undergo these important (if unpleasant) tests. Some of the most common cancers can be treated successfully if they are found early. Your own experience with Cervical Cancer is one example. Breast and colon cancers can also be treated if found in the early stages. And so the men aren't left out, prostate cancer can be treated if found early.

Nicely written advice here (Reply to this comment)
by hikini
I don't 'enjoy' that annual trip to the doctor but I do enjoy the peace of mind that comes with a normal outcome. So I faithfully go. (And the men need to go for their prostate exam as well - even before the age of 50!)

My Dad is a 2 time cancer survivor, 2 different kinds, 20 years apart. It's important to have support for others, but I found I needed support from my friends and family even though I personally did not have the cancer. Be grateful for good friends and be a good friend yourself.

Nicely written review here - thanks for sharing your story.

I agree with you 100% -- my Mom and sister are both breast cancer survivors, both due to finding it early.

You have reminded my to make an appointment for MY dreaded annual exam!

Thanks for a timely (for me) and very important review.
