Are you saying you don't think it's true or that I shouldn't mention it?

Do note that I said "a couple." I think most of the reviewers are on the up-and-up. Frankly, it would be most surprising if some members weren't scamming. There aren't any checks and balances here (other than members making note of problems--which doesn't happen very often).

I do use the site as a shopper. Some of the material here is excellent. Some of it isn't.

You have it right and well said. There are abuses and it happens in other sites as well. I got caught in one on Amazon where you can buy from a section of new and used items. I found a good price on a camera for a friend and got caught in it's web. After countless badgering him with e-mails he relented and refunded my money. You don't scam a Grannie and get away with it. There are scam artist in every place one goes so just be careful.

You said it best, keep alert.

I am certain that some members write reviews about sites that they have never shopped--and a couple are top members here. That sort of thing is almost impossible to prove. But, if you hang out and watch, you'll see that (as you know). Those reviews do, of course, rank high, because the top members carry weight from other areas.

Cyndi - stuff like this causes all sorts of hard feelings. I mean, I have no clue who you are talking about but as a member who could be considered "top" in sofaras hits, number of reviews, etc... you've just cast suspicion on me. That's crap.

I'd like to see the old Web o' Trust play a larger role in ranking reviews in this section. So many of the reviews are one-offs written by members who have few or no other reviews. I'd trust a review much more if it were written by someone with a track record - VHs be damned.

Yep. This has been and is a problem.

I was doing online before they had a category. I shop a lot online, love it, and I wanted to share before EP decided that Online was a viable area to add reviews (in any real way).

It is hard to do online reviews. Readers do NOT want a rehash of the site info, and that was what a lot of the VH reviews were in the beginning. On the other hand, the "I bought and got it" reviews are totally worthless. If they (EP) want a star click, that's fine. I really hate to click and read two sentences that don't say anything.

I am certain that some members write reviews about sites that they have never shopped--and a couple are top members here. That sort of thing is almost impossible to prove. But, if you hang out and watch, you'll see that (as you know). Those reviews do, of course, rank high, because the top members carry weight from other areas.

Unless I know a member here and know that person to be on-the-level, I take the online reviews with a grain of salt or less. That's unfortunate, because there are some really good ones that come in. It's just hard to know which ones are and which ones aren't.

I hope things will mellow out in online now that they have more reviews. I think that EP fudged when they needed the numbers on the sites. When folks raised cain about it, they added those express and merchant things.

One thing I do know and trust is that the Leads are making a big effort to make sure the area gets better. I've never been pushed by the leads to do things that I did not feel comfortable with. They also add sites that I ask about. I have one right now that I am writing up (George added it). I could do the review, but I want to wait for this last shipment to come in. I usually buy single items at this spot, and I bought several this time. I think I can do a better review when I also have a big order under my belt to go with the smaller ones. It may be easier to get one item right than several. But, I'm guessing that they'll nail it.

Thanks for the review. It's easier to stay quiet around here. But, things don't get worked out if folks don't speak up.
