Investigation (Reply to this comment)

The epinions movie Hercules certainly has earned a rest! even if answering neither of my questions.
BTW, it's Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion.

I certainly agree that sometimes the best foreign film in a given year doesn't even get nominated and other times the best nominee isn't picked. While some (many) of these might not be the best for their year, most of them are no less than very good films.
As for Hercules, he's going to take a break on film reviews for a week-and-a-half (except maybe a list or two). He's on his way to Chattanooga for a family reunion.

Thanks for the tip on the misspelling of Il Postino. I corrected it. I haven't been able to locate either the 1950 or the 1982 films. I've got a standing search in with eBay but have exhausted all the standard outlets. I didn't feel that I had the right to rate them until I've seen them, so I rated them "out-of-print." If I acquire either one in the future, I'll update its listing.

Cleaning the Augean stables? Oscar voters are often puzzlingly wrong on their own, but the foreign-language film category is further polluted by the first cut.
I'm curious how many of these would make your list of 10-best foreign-language films.

Hats Off! (Reply to this comment)

What a superb summation of your extensive project here! I've done a few large-scale things here, but this blows me away. This will be a great reference for me (and no doubt for others) in the future...
A couple boo-boos: In the bonus section, you mean Il Postino (damn spell check, probably switched it on you automatically), and did you mean to put no rating for the 1982 film?
Again, hats off--
