Another write-off? Why the hell not?! Sounds good to me.

Jun 16 '04

The Bottom Line My little contribution to daniellebeeson's Why Not Another Write-Off W/O. Enjoy.

Jumping in on write-offs is fun. Here's my random entry into the Why Not Another Write-Off W/O, hosted by daniellebeeson in celebration of her 35th review. Congrats Danielle and thanks for having a write-off open to everyone.

(1) Age: old enough to drive but still too young to get my check from Epinions with earnings I've been (barely) getting since I was 14. I'm 17 with just two short months to go before I'm legal. August 20th. I like gifts. Lots of them. Not a girrrrlll, not yet a womaaaann...

(2) Sex: not yet. I'm a virgin. Er, okay, I'm a female. Don't tell my girlfriend though, she thinks I'm a man. I'm waiting to confess my dirty secret to her on Ricki Lake. Shhhh. Ok, I'm kidding. Maybe.

(3) Children? I have a baby sister. She's the one in the profile photo with me, and while I love her like crazy, she has made me realize I don't want to have kids for quite a long time. But when I do, I want at least two, but ideally a boy and two girls. I have names picked out too. Muaha.

(4) Siblings? The baby in the picture and another sister who's 14 and the spawn of all things inherently evil in this cruel, cruel world.

(5) If so are you older or younger? I'm the oldest, which has its advantages and disadvantages. But let's not get into that.

(6) Favorite Color? Blue, but most of my wardrobe is pink now so I guess pink is my other favorite color. Whatever.

(7) Do you collect anything? Rocks. Ok, no. I don't. I used to collect porcelain dolls, but not anymore. I have what I call my "Backstreet Box," filled with all sorts of things you'd all laugh at if you ever saw it. HEY, my Burger King Backstreet Boys action figures (I have four of each Boy) are priceless. So there.

(8) If you could be any animal what would it be and why? I'm perfectly content being of the human species. I like that our species can build clean houses and eat clean food (ok, shut up and do NOT tell me fast food horror stories) and...well, you get the picture. I guess.

(9) Who is your favorite actor? Hayden Christensen. Or Ben Affleck. Or...alright, I'm not really big on movie stars. I'm more into the music stars. Oh well.

(10) Favorite actress? Sandra Bullock. I love her movies. I swear I can relate to her characters in movies like Miss Congeniality and Nine Weeks Notice or whatever the heck it was called. They're just so me. Ha.

(11) What do you hate more than anything? Religious zealots and bigots (oh wait, those two usually go hand in hand). Teenagers (or at least most of them). Oh, that's more than one. Oh well.

(12) If you could be the President for one day what would you do? Make my vice president do everything. I'm not too great in leadership roles. Actually, I'd legalize gay marriages, take "under god" out of the Pledge of Allegiance and reinstate its recitation in all public schools, remind everyone of the Separation of Church and State, lower gas prices and give all military members a pay raise because they just don't make enough for the damn good job they do. Vote Cynthia Park 2004. Then maybe I can be half as cool as 29th_Candidate.

(13) Who is your best friend? Matt. Not that you know who he is or anything. Then there's Rod, my second best friend, the crazy Scottish guy. You don't know who he is either.

(14) Are you passive or aggressive? Whichever you prefer, baby. Er. Actually, I can be both, but mostly I come off as rather passive.

(15) What is your dream job? I'd love to work behind the scenes in the music industry or take on the position of editor at a major music magazine. Sigh.

(16) What is your worst habit? Eating when I'm not hungry. Drinking caffeine. Okay, so that's more of an addiction. I get headaches when I don't have it. Yikes.

(17) What is your greatest asset? Hopefully my writing ability, at least when it comes to my career. But I also think I'm incredibly loyal to my friends, and I'd like to think I have a good sense of humor and quick wit. I don't know, how about you tell me? Please?

(18) Would you rather: (a)WALK (b)DRIVE (c)FLY? Drive. But then I'm a new driver and I'm loving my new jukebox on wheels.

(19) If you went camping, you would sleep: (a) IN A TENT (b) UNDER THE STARS (c) IN A HOTEL? Camping. That's funny. Let's go with C, in a hotel. Camping to me is not being able to sleep in my own bed and going without my computer for more than 24 hours. You might as well shoot me if I ever have to do any real camping. Okay, so perhaps I'm a bit on the girly side. Some guys like that sort of thing, right?

(20) If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why? I'd love to have the amazing ability to understand math. Let's just say it's not one of my stronger subjects.

(21) Favorite cartoon character? Lill on the Rugrats. She was the toughest little baby girl on that show and she always kicked Phil's a**. On a somewhat related note: when some people find out my name is actually Cynthia, I sometimes get the comment "like Angelica's doll on the Rugrats! HAHA!" I just blink.

(22) Party: ALL NIGHT LONG OR WHAT'S THAT?? What's that?! I'm not much of a party person. In fact, I much prefer keeping to myself for the most part. But I can appreciate loud music and getting rowdy every once in awhile. Not that I ever go to parties. I still admit to having a wild side that could come out at parties though. Heh. Wow, I sound pathetic. Anyone wanna invite me to a party? :(

(23) How many reviews have you written? 209 not counting this one. So I suppose it's technically 210.

(24) How many members trust you? 65 lovelies.

(25) Who was the first member to trust you? Civic2000, I think. But the first person who trusted me did so prior to Jan. 11, '01, so there's no date beside a handful of people on my WOT.

(26) Who was the first member you trusted? Again, it was prior to Jan. 11, '01, but I think it was 29th_Candidate, not surprisingly.

(27) Favorite category to write in? I very rarely stray from the music category. I should probably venture off into other categories more often, but I'm afraid to leave the nest that is the music category. I'm kidding.

(28) What is the best review you have written? I quite liked the piece I did in which I picked five male members to be a part of the first ever Epinions boy band, Writer's Block. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd sift through my reviews to find the link.

(29) What is the worst review you have written? Just go back to some of the first few I wrote. Quite embarrassing, I must admit.

(30) If you could be one member, who would it be and why? Kristina to experience that kind of popularity and Jim because he's such an eloquent and wonderfully satirical writer.

(31) If you could change one thing about WOT?? Probably the fact that you can hide them. What the hell is the point in that? Also, I can't stand newbies joining and adding 200 members to their WOTs just because they think it'll help them gain popularity. Which leads me to my next dislike of the WOT system -- it's all just a silly popularity contest. I'm a seasoned member of Epinions but certainly not on everyone's WOT. I like it that way. I'm not sure why, but I do.

(32) If you could change one thing about Rating? Uh, the Most Helpful button. I mean, come on, what is that? I think it allows for an uneven playing field. If a review is very helpful, then so be it, but don't put one person's review of a product above everyone else's. What I'd prefer over a Most Helpful button is a "Very Helpful But I Completely Disagreed And Think You Suck" button. Now that could make for some interesting commenting and revenge rating. Gotta love Epinions.

(33) If you could change one thing about Writing? Express reviews are pointless. At one point in time, no one could get away with writing a three sentence review on Epinions. Now with express reviews, any mediocre (or even poor) writer can come in and say "This product is good. I think you should buy it. The end." I thought Epinions and its members had higher standards than that.

(34) If you could change your member name, what would you change it to and why?? That's funny because I both hate and love my Epinions username. It reminds me of when I first joined and is clearly very dated because it was inspired by a song released on the Backstreet Boys' Black & Blue in 2000, "It's True." If I could, I'd change my username to journalistic or something similar to it. But I think I kinda like mine. It signifies practically all of my teenage years and my growth as a writer since I was 14.

(35) Who is your mentor here at Epinions? Well, kristinafh of course! She's just a great person and although I have rarely spoken to her on a personal basis, I still love her to death. Her writing is simple but completely fascinating, and sometimes I wonder how she does it. She's a trendsetter. She's fabulous, what can I say?
