Love it (Reply to this comment)

But people expect that of me.
What do we have to encourage you to write more? I'd love to hear more of your stories.
BTW, I didn't think bungalows had second stories.

Actually... (Reply to this comment)

I ran across this while looking for something else...but still, that's creepy...and reminds me of the house I grew up in.
Well written...and I'm sitting here with the hairs raising on the back of my neck.

Very creepy! My favorite in this W/O so far! (Reply to this comment)

Definitely sounds like an interesting house, and you DO sound awfully brave. I believe I have been visited by (stranger, not known) spirits a couple of times, and one DID sit on my bed, but did not materialize so I could see it. I was too scared to push it off! In fact, even though the IDEA of ghosts does not bother me at all, these days I get more and more creeped out by my dachshund barking and growling at something about 5 feet 10 inches tall that I can't see...
Great story! Thanks for sharing!

As a fellow atheist, I will admit that sometimes this sort of thing throws a spanner into the works. I have troubles being 100% atheist in the same way I've recently had troubles being 100% vegetarian - sometimes beef is yummy and sometimes I just don't want to think that dead is dead...is dead.
Then, of course, you can just decide to believe in residual energy and the theoretical non-linear/cyclic qualities of time, and it'll explain an awful lot of things away.
Cheers for your comment, though!

goosebumps... (Reply to this comment)
by lyagushka
I can't decide whether or not I'm interested in having some sort of direct experience with ghosts or not. Stories like this one from people who sound like they've got their feet firmly on the ground always raise interesting quandries for my staunch atheism. Pretty interesting though....

I did hope for awhile that my dog would eat it.
As I said in a previous comment, I would carry the dog with me throughout the house. As soon as I carried her upstairs, we'd BOTH tense up and start crying. Nobody liked it up there. Needless to say, the second story was used only for storage.
There was a room in my basement which, inexplicably, was filled with dirt. There weren't any holes in the foundation, and the windows in the room weren't broken. It even had carpeting (the only room in the basement with flooring.) When we moved in, it had been walled in, but when the wall broke from the weight of the dirt, we decided to dig out the room so we could use it for storage. Once we came across the chains and the single shoe, we quickly rubbished that idea and ran very very very far way.

I kept all the lights on at night and carried the dog around.
Annasmell would flush out rooms before I went into them.

I didn't tell the fam about it.
"Hey, you wanna come over to my house for dinner?"
"Hah, yeah, right..."
Dad mentioned something about a woman in a nightgown standing in the family room once. I decided not to tell him about anything. I FINALLY mentioned in years later...

This was years ago.
At first I thought it wanted to eat my face, but then I got used to the noises. It was when it started to appear that I really flipped out. Essentially, it was an intruder - a stranger - in my home. Perhaps it thought the same about me...
Sometimes we'd just ask it to stop making so much noise/stealing my keys/turning on the faucets and it would...

Musta took a lot of guts to push at that thing on your bed...I would have been out of my skin too. Your story really started to give me goosebumps when you said your puppy was scared of the upstairs!

Yaa-hoo! (Reply to this comment)

Not about the spook, but about the writing. I'm just happy my blackmail worked (though I have a sneaking suspicion it had more to do with the opportunity offered by the w/o).
Anyway, I knew about some of the problems with the house. It was a very cute, old bungalow with very cute, old characteristics. I guess the ghost just went with the territory...
Plus, you had Anna-smell and she was always a bit on edge and spooky herself.
A great read, sis.

stuff!
Having never really seen very much in the way of ghosts, I'm not sure how long I would stick something like that out.
Interesting tale, I certainly enjoyed the read.
