That sounds exactly like my old bedroom! So, what cool posters do you have up?

Interesting story, (Reply to this comment)

...and well-written. I enjoyed reading it.

You'd be right at home in my office ... it's a 60-foot loft built above the 2nd-floor grooming salon for our kennel. To get it past the Coastal Commission we had to bill it as an "attic", which means it's right under the roof: I can hear the crows walking around up there. There are 4 dormer windows to provide additional space. Otherwise the walls start slanting up after only about 3 feet of verticality ... which means in any practical terms there are no vertical walls (except at either end of the loft and at the ends of the dormers, but that's where the windows are. Bookcases are a bit of a problem....

I drove past the house once and was heartbroken to see they had cut down the two big oak trees that were in our front yard. One was easily 50-60 years old and towered over the whole area.

My mom's the one who should go back. She has stories of coming home from work and getting off the bus when the area was still being developed. She could see her house but couldn't figure out how to get there!

Thanks for the comment Phil - I love hearing about what Long Island looked like before the housing boom and it seemed to get so darn crowded!

Well there are limits to how far you can go in suburban NYC. Our neighborhood wasn't bad, but in a contest between the ghosts in the house and the "demons" outside of my house....

Hmm, I'm trying to think if these incidents pre-dated my love of science fiction. I don't believe so. I was watching Star Trek re-runs at a pretty young age.

Thanks for the comment!

You are welcome Jeff. I knew I had a pretty good story, it was just a matter of getting it all together.

We had a visitor knock on our door one day. It was a 60 year old woman. She was raised in our home. We had purchased the home 32 years ago from her parents whom have both died since. Our home is over a hundred years old. She didn't have any ghosts in her past but it was like talking to somebody from another time as she explained how certain highlights in her life were vividly remembered. The old tree in our yard still had marks from a long gone tree house her dad had built. She pointed to a corner where she had her first ever kiss with a boy. She told us of what the house looked like before her dad did certain renovations that we still live with. Her sisters wedding was in our backyard. Years later we had our sons wedding there too.

A month or two later we received a wonderful letter from the woman thanking us for letting her relive some memories. I treasure that letter.

Yes Patti, do go back. You probably won't even have to ask about the ghost. They will tell you.

Best,

Phil

You just gave me the willies!!!

I think my @ss would have been out of that house in a hurry, even if I had to sleep in the yard!

I still have goosebumps -- thanks!
