this read like it was the work of a pro. i'm not sure if i commented on your last (and shorter) story, but that was one of the best short stories i'd read in my life: sorry forr not offering feedback.
however, this one surpassed it. awesome stuff. as jer rightly said, look into getting this published. seriously.

Whoa... pretty good stuff! Hell of a lot better than anything I did at that point in my life. Great job on the imagery, nothing brings a reader in more than a vivid picture. This, though, there's something almost surreal about it...
