The Bottom Line The craziest game I've ever played - enormous fun!
CaptainD's Freeware Game Digest #8 - DuzzQuest
DuzzQuest is without any doubt the wackiest game Ive ever played on any system and considering some of the creations of crazed minds Ive seen, thats quite an achievement
An AGS (Adventure Game Studio)-created graphical adventure, the plot features the games creator and star Duzz in my opinion, the best Australian ever (apart from Kylie, Nicole Kidman, and fellow epinion member Cripper). This game had me in hysterics from start to finish.
Its fully voice-acted (very well, on the whole, and good, crisp sampling for the most part) by Duzz and his friends & family, who appear in the game with mad skills and shape-changing abilities. The plot is as crazed as it gets Duzzs friend has been kidnapped, quite probably by aliens, and the whole future of the cosmic dimensions is under threat unless they can play music on a flying saucer
or something like that. The main characters philosophical musings are hilarious, as is much of the dialogue by the other characters in the game. The graphics for the backgrounds and character graphics are digitised pictures, which although low-res give it a unique feel, and the animations is
well, lets just say that Ive not seen anything like Duzzs walk since Monty Python was on TV. The puzzles are pretty straightforward, although beware it seems that if you dont take the poster from the bedroom near the start of the game, you might not be able to get back into the bedroom (and thus cannot get any further in the game!).
The only real disappointment is that the game is so short. In a way this is a good thing as I wanted it to keep going on forever, it really is the funniest game Ive every played! But you would have to be really bad to fail to complete it in less than an hour. (Or, of course, you may just have forgotten to get the poster in the bedroom
) Also, if youre still on narrowband internet access, the download size may be off-putting for a game that wont take you long to complete.
Having said all of that, I just loved this game. Its well put together, looks nice, sounds great, and is extremely original! (It even has an arcade sub-game that will have your nerves on edge
well, it wont really, but its great fun!) If youve got broadband then you really will be doing yourself a huge favour downloading this.
Final Ratings
Graphics: 8/10 nice-looking digitised graphics and hilarious animation
Sound: 9/10 very clear sampled speech most of the time, plus youll be rolling on the floor with laughter
Playability: 8 /10 easy to pick up and play, pity there seems to be a slight glitch with not being able to get back into the bedroom
Longevity: 5/10 sadly its very short
but maybe one day hell release a full-scale epic on CD? (Well I can hope, cant I?!??!)
Replay Value: 7/10 this sort of game seldom has much replay value, but you may well come back to this one just for the laughs.
Overall Rating: 7/10 I really, really want to give this game a higher rating, but its just too short to merit more than 7. However, for humour, I give it 11/10!
