1970 Cristal, Anyone?

Jun 26 '04

The Bottom Line Yep, another w/o entry. But darnit, I'm not the only famous thing vintage 1970.

I've been hemming and hawing about participating in Annie_Crane's Treasure Hunt Write-Off, but my curiosity got the better of me.

Here are my answers:

1) One invention the year you were born. It can be anything from a food item to a car.

I'm a nerd, so I'm going to give you two: the first usable optical fiber, and the microprocessor, without which I would be unable to participate in this W/O.

2) Who was the most famous actor/actress the year you were born?

Well, Academy Awards to the contrary, I'll hazard a guess and assume that they would be Ryan O'Neal and Ali MacGraw, because Love means never having to say you're sorry.

*sob*

3) Most popular vehicle the year you were born.

Toyota something or other. I got bored looking.

4) Which president was in office and what did he do for our country that was different, either good or bad?

LOL. Nixon. Do you really need me to point that out? Good was starting relations with China. Bad, um... hello?

5) One hit movie

Love Story. See above.

6) Something from the top ten category in music.

Here's the Billboard List:

1. Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon and Garfunkle
2. I'll Be There - Jackson 5
3. Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head - B.J. Thomas
4. Close To You - Carpenters
5. My Sweet Lord/Isn't It A Pity - George Harrison
6. I Think I Love You - Partridge Family
7. Ain't No Mountain High Enough - Diana Ross
8. American Woman/No Sugar Tonight - Guess Who
9. War - Edwin Starr
10. Let It Be - the Beatles
11. The Tears of a Clown - Smokey Robinson & the Miracles
12. Mama Told Me (Not To Come) - Three Dog Night
13. ABC - Jackson 5
14. The Love You Save/I Found That Girl - Jackson 5
15. Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again) - Sly & the Family Stone

What a cool year!!! Some of my favorite songs are on there.... well, not Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head, but still...

7) Any item of your choice to mention from the year you were born.

Oh, I'm going to give you a whole bunch... it was a big year!!!

In 1970, NPR (http://www.npr.org) incorporated as a non-profit organization. It was the year of the Apollo 13 mission. The first Earth Day and the first New York Marathon were held in 1970.

1970 was also the year when four students were killed by National Guardsmen at Kent State.

And you know that exploding whale video you've seen on line? You guessed it... 1970.

Born the same year as me? Queen Latifah, Secretariat, Andre Agassi, Jennifer Lopez, and Annika Sörenstam.

Died that year? Gypsy Rose Lee, Mark Rothko, Erle Stanley Gardner, Brian Piccolo, Vince Lombardi, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin.
