By the time I watched this movie, everyone and their kitchen sinks were telling me how funny this movie was. That truly ruined it for me, I think, because I came out saying, "Eh, it was okay."
I LOVED Shaun of the Dead and hoped for more of the same ingenuity. So when I heard such good reviews, I went in expecting to see THE funniest movie ever made... and was let down. Yes, there are funny parts, and I'm sure it will be much funnier to anyone who hasn't seen Shaun of the Dead or hoped it will be funnier than a normal comedy.
So what SHOULD you expect if you haven't seen this movie yet? Expect a half-horror/half-comedy bloodbath, with a pretty good plotline (for a comedy), good acting by all the main characters, and a lot of guns (more towards the end).
So what should you NOT expect? Three things: First, comedy that absolutely blows your mind. Second, any sort of compassion towards senior citizens (you can see some of this in the previews). Third, any sort of moral lesson.
This is not a kids movie by any means. There's plenty of drinking, violence, gore, language, and disrespectful behavior that kids don't need to absorb. There's also a chance that they might not even understand all the dry British humor involved (i.e. the fast zoom-ins to pointless scenes).
Go in with moderate expectations of a decent comedy and you'll probably love it.
