It WAS decent, but it doesn't change the fact most people could care less about most of those acts (whether they SHOULD care is another argument)

It was a tour without a true headliner

Lollapalooza (Reply to this comment)

I actually thought Lollapalooza was decent this year. I was planning on attending. Maybe it's just that The Pixies were playing Ventura, but they were only playing 2 shows out off all Lollapalooza dates. Oh well, it's dead.

YUP! They played a LOAD of stuff from the 80's. I was impressed. They played a bunch of new material in addition (which I didn't really care for), but the 80's stuff was impressive (as was to be expected!)...

This is a long list of RHCP live show related stuff.

I saw the Chilis live a few nights ago and they didn't seem too bad to me. Lot's of energy, though teh set could've been longer, especially since James Brown (I got to see the Godfather Of Soul-aren't I lucky?). The only real problem was the lack of old material. They played a new song which starts off sounding like "The Zephyr Song" and ends up sounding like Motorhead. Strange.

Though yeah, they do need to change their set list.

Nice thoughts, by the way.

Californication didn't bother me until it got overplayed to death...and I liked By the Way originally but now I listen to it and I'm completely bored by it

Did they really play their 80s stuff? I heard they basically played the hits from Cali, By the Way and BSSM on their last tour, with very very very little (if any) stuff from pre BSSM

Hey, I saw that tour too! Fishbone and STP did indeed rock the house down, and my wife (then-girlfriend) and I left in the middle of the Chili Pepper set.

For the record, I was so impressed by Weiland and co. that I saw them on their headlining tour later that year....and they seriously stunk. No charisma whatsoever. Which was a total bummer.

In any case, fun review as ever Matt.

Oh god, yes. RHCP in 2000 with Californication CRAP? Hell yeah. Though it was kinda cool because RHCP split their set with their new album and their 1980's stuff. All the kids there were like "Dude, what's that?" while their parents were grooving to the old funk rock.

Fishbone was insanity...crawling over the chairs and up the aisles at Pine Knob outside of Detroit. Which is, by the way, an AWESOME venue.

FISHBONE?

Fishbone rules, something tells me both them and STP blew the Mildy Spicy Chili Peppers off the stage

Yeah. They were actually billed as the opening act, hence their brief show. RHCP did nearly two hours if memory serves...

And both backs were opened by Fishbone.

9 songs in an hour opening set is certainly "full", though I might've expected them and the Chilis to each do 90 minutes...I had a feeling you were joking, but given the low expectations people seem to have for concert lengths these days, you never know

Eh. But it's better than them say doing five or six. Heck, it could have been more than nine. They were on stage nearly and hour...

(and yeah, some joking--it was just more than I'd expected)

A 9 set song is nearly complete? Please tell me you're joking

Two things... (Reply to this comment)

First off, Scott Weiland is AWESOME live! I saw STP back in 2000 when they toured with RHCP. I guess they were the "opening act" but any set with 9 or so songs is nearly complete. I actually went for STP and not RHCP. It was incredible--crazy energy on stage and PERFECT performance.

Secondly, I saw the Warped Tour back in 1997. I guess it was still in it's infancy. Got to see Social Distortion, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Helmet,Millencollin (who were pretty awesome), Sugar Ray (when they were punk on like the third stage), and a whole bunch of ska bands (as it was the beginning of the ska movement).

Very fun stuff. Enjoyable read as always...

Do you really think it is wise for an advisor to make a derogatory comment about a group of people? Are you that narrow-minded that you feel it is acceptable to make these comments in any public forum?

Mike and I were talking about this. They must be going bankrupt again. How can you bring in a new group member? The group is named after T-Boz, Left Eye and Chili.

Just wondering, no mention of Britney's canceled summer tour? I don't understand. Why do you have to cancel a tour because of a knee injury? It's your voice, right? I saw both Blues Traveler and Alice In Chains with Popper and Staley in wheel chairs for goodness sake.

STUPID CRAPPY POP MUSIC!!!

Great thoughts as always.

I Should Note... (Reply to this comment)

AFI isn't the only band doing a cover of "Head Like A Hole", so is Korn for their upcoming Greatest Hits album along with a cover of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2". Lame.

I have another reason not to see Kiss. They don't have Peter Criss too. No Ace, No Peter. No thanks, I don't mind Paul Stanley and I'm sure the new guys aren't bad but I ain't going to pay no money just because some k*ke with a huge ego wants to have another farewell tour.
