HAPPY 100TH TO ME!

The Bottom Line Number 100 and still going strong!

We interrupt these reviews to bring you a very special write up!

When I started writing on Eps almost a year ago, my goal was to write 100 reviews in one year. Well, I am happy to report that number 100 is ahead of schedule! In reading other members’ 100 reviews, there seems to be some developing traditions and obligatory subjects relating to a writer’s 100th review. For my 100th review, I thought that I would present some metrics and then free form on some of my thoughts about my first year here. I’ve even snuck in some obligatory stuff.

Some statistics of my first year at Eps:

Reviews by Category: Books 45, Music, 27, Restaurant & Gourmet 6, Hotels and Travel 3, Electronics 2, Games 1, Home and Garden 1, Health 2, Movies 2, Computer Hardware 2, Magazines and Newspapers 2, and Writer’s Corner (pure indulgences, thanks for reading) 7.

My review of that list would be that I could have spread the reviews out a little more, perhaps by indulging less in the Writer’s Corner.

Average time spent writing a review: 2 hours.

Accomplishments: On the popularity chart, Books No. 531, Music No. 822. Web of Trust: 41 members. Of this last one, I am the proudest.

Most viewed category (all page views): Electronics. I guess that means books and music are a labor of love…

Most fun at Eps last year: Meet and Greet. My review can be read at here.

Goals for the next year:

100 more opinions.
Grow WOT.
Write more concise opinions.
Revamp Personal Profile page.
Keep self indulgences to 5 reviews.

Wish that Eps would improve: (where are you Garrett?) Monthly updates of income shares, page views, Write Off winners, and popularity charts should be more regular. Say, on the 19th of the month, every month. At the moment, the timing is a little random and always late. (BTW, Garrett writes at Eps, but I won’t “out” him. Suggest instead that you ask him for his pen name at a Meet and Greet.)

Wish that Eps Community would adopt (obligatory rant): reviews under 200 words. I think this is a great idea, and having more short reviews would allow Eps to sell itself to a lot more retailers. This would, in turn, mean that everyone would get more page views, and that should mean everyone would get more money. I realize that the short reviews are not eligible for income share, but I have two ideas---make them income share eligible, or ask everyone to write at least one (maybe I’ll even host a write off). My WOT pal jjirons is really brave in that I think he only writes short reviews.

Finally, some (obligatory) thanks. Thanks to everyone on my WOT, I admire your writing and aspire to write to not disappoint you. These members I consider deserving of special mention, in no particular order:

For being the first “hat” to add me to his WOT and being an all around swell writer: ed_grover.

For being the hardest working advisor on Eps: sleeper54.

For writing endlessly about Patsy Cline: wifeofvolsfan.

For “no thanks” hooking me onto my current worst obsession---the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan: lorendiac.

For writing the funniest reviews on Eps: plorentz.

For being the resident pedant---every community needs one: mobiprof.

Thanks for stopping by. Now back to your regularly scheduled program…
