Don't bother with this camera

Written: Sep 06 '01 (Updated Sep 07 '01)
Pros:None
Cons:Generic, crappy, poor image quality, overpriced, drivers crash
The Bottom Line: Junk, junk, junk. Do not buy this webcam.

I don't care what price you find this camera selling for, it is a rip off. The camera has poor image quality (especially in low light), is not compatible with many basic webcam software (it wouldn't work with netmeeting), and the drivers cause other webcam software to crash.
This is a horrendous product, and I am amazed that IBM was willing to put their name on it, since they don't even make the cameras.
Most of the software included with the webcam is useless as well, so it really is a complete waste of money. For a great webcam, look into the Philips ToUCam Pro, which is currently selling for about $70.
If you must buy a dirt cheap webcam, look into the Logitech QuickCam Web or, if you must, the QuickCam Express. Don't expect good low light performance, though.

Please also note that the complete line of IBM cameras are nearly just as bad. We tested out the IBM PC Camera, the Net Camera, and the Net Camera Pro, which was selling for $99 at Best Buy. We were very disappointed in all of the IBM cameras. While the net camera pro had slightly better image quality, it was still not up to par with other cameras in its price range, and its drivers still caused crashes.
