I purchased an MP3 player that came with a year's subscription to EMusic. The process of getting through the registration was fairly painless, but then having to download and install a downloader to access the files was a little cumbersome, especially since it downloads files directly to the desktop. I wasn't too enthused with either of these aspects.
The selection of the music store was very poor, initially having 72 downloads from my subscription, I had a hard time finding songs that I wanted to download. The selection is mainly independent artists, and anything that I was remotely interested in, I already owned the disc. I was "forced" to download things that I only remotely wanted, and things that I was looking for weren't available.
The sound quality of what I've downloaded is excellent, and the files are tagged very nicely for playback in my Sandisk C140. The process of downloading is straight forward, but maintenance of your overall library can be a little consuming if you're getting music from sources other than eMusic.
Overall, I can only recommend the service to someone that knows what they're getting into, and is interested in the limited label library of EMusic. Fans of music published by mainstream labels are going to be disappointed.
