| Suzer's Full Review: Essex 16" 3-Speed Floor Fan |
Summer in Venice (California, that is) you may visualize a beautiful blue sky, and feel wonderful beachy breezes. That could be the situation, but unfortunately not at my house. It tends to be uncomfortably warm for me and for my pets. We do what we can reasonably do to cool off the house.
My very thoughtful neighbor, after renovating their home, asked me if I would like a couple of really good floor fans. I'm not crazy so I thanked her profusely, and set them up. I am perfectly capable of purchasing my own fans, but I generally am disappointed in them. They promised me the two they gave me were excellent. One is an attractive tower stand that works very well. I reviewed that fan at:

The other fan is the Essex 16" 3-speed floor fan. This fan I placed in my bedroom. I was initially concerned that it would not cool off my room sufficiently. Here are the details:
First of all it is large with a large X-shaped base that honestly does take up some space. It is entirely white. Normally white would not be my choice as it is too difficult to keep clean, but I quickly cleaned it off as it hadn't been used in years, and it looks fine.
~*~ It has 3 speed settings. Slow, medium, speedy
~*~ This fan is very very powerful
~*~ I wasn't looking for an oscillating fan, but this fan offers that feature
~*~ If you are looking for a fan in which you can adjust the height, this fan has that ability
~*~ You can take it apart if you need to move it or for other reasons
Dimensions as it were:
I'm not the best at measuring, but to give you an idea:
The fan is about 4 feet tall.
18" across the fan itself.
The base sticks out about 18" in each direction (x-shaped as noted previously)
Needless to say:
I can't address the ease of assembly as it was assembled when my neighbors gave it to me.
My experience:
It has been about a month or so that I've been enjoying, yes, enjoying this fan. I keep it on all day and all night, and it cools beautifully from across my small bedroom. My cats and dogs fight over who gets to get blown by it when I am at home, or otherwise away from the abode. The dogs look at peace; the cats purr. Who could ask for more?
You are probably thinking, yeah, but what about the noise? On the lowest level it is quiet. At the medium level it is still okay. The highest level is a little noisy.
Amazingly the lowest level is what I have always used, and I am so pleased with its ability to keep my room cooled off. Now I must admit I do not use the oscillating function, but merely keep it turned in my direction or towards the animals for their pleasure during the day. Generally I return home, and one cat or dog has not left the place they were initially in when I left (how do you spell bored, lazy, and okay, smart?).
My recommendations:
This is not a gorgeous decorative fan. It is an excellent, utilitarian fan that has shown itself to be durable and very effective. I am giving it 4 1/2 stars, as I couldn't decide between 4 & 5. It is terrific, but not gorgeous, so that makes it 4 1/2 in my book. I recommend it for anyone who needs a very effective, durable fan, and has the room for it.
Of the two fans I was given, the tower fan is more attractive and has a smaller footprint, but the Essex fan seems stronger to me. Both are excellent, and better than those I've purchased myself. This fan would run approximately $40 if purchased new.
Many thanks to Pogomom for adding this product for me!
Thanks for reading!
