| daumco's Full Review: Angel & the Rain - The Love Crave |
Remember me? Old Man Metal.
The Angel and the Rain
Sometime you discover new and great music in the strangest ways. Like the way I discovered this group. I have a lot of bands up on my myspace page and because of that, new bands are always asking to be my ms friend. I always listen to their music and as long as it's not death metal, I add them. Well, to make a long story less long, I listened to Love Crave, went straight to Amazon and plunked down $23.99 plus shipping for The Angel & the Rain.
Good is good and these guys are better than good, they're fabulous, or since they're, to my surprise Italian, fabuloso. I enjoy this album so much they've even coaxed me out of my reviewing shell to write my first review in three months (explanation on my profile page.)
So, what makes Love Crave so good?
I don't know yet. Their music seems to be standard alternative femme metal, very common in Europe. They just seem to do it so well. And then there's the orchestration and keyboard playing. (See below) You know that tickly feeling you get in your heart when something is so good you can't stand it - they got it.
It seems to me, they play a heavy metal, sometimes symphonic version of Garbage, the band, LOL including a femme lead singer; one Francesca Chiara. Francesca, a tall pretty girl with long brown hair and blond stranded highlights, seems to have a take-charge personality, imbuing her gothic character upon the band. This can't be bad, for the album is a killer. Why it's a killer is not so easy to put my finger on. Little things and big things. A consistently fresh and persistent sound. Little instrumental, vocal and orchestral touches at just the right places. The more you listen the more you appreciate, but it's not an album you have to wait to grow on you. It grabbed me straight away. That's why I bought it immediately after hearing three songs on myspace.

Conclusion
One thing I find curious is the album has some excellent keyboard passages, yet no credited keyboard player. True they can always get someone to play keyboards with them, but why would you compose songs that included excellent piano parts if you didn't have a keyboard player?
Whether they have a designated keyboard player or not I love them. I'm not going to say this is the best album I've bought this year because there's bee a lot of great music this year, but trust me, this is one of the best. Final rating 4.65 stars.
