Sometimes I change it and sometimes I ignore it, and put both in. Not that I am a moody person.

I was born in Maidstone, Kent. Got to walk down the street where I was born, back in May. My brother still lives in Folkestone.

I have no idea. We actually have an alligator in our lake. I haven't seen it, but neighbors tell me it is almost 8 feet.
You can always join me any year on my travels through England. The more the merrier.

You must have come in our 'rainy season' Drew. I tell everyone to avoid July - September, when it is at it's worst. That's when most Brits come.
I think I love Christmas day the best, when I can take a swim, and walk around in a top and shorts. Nothing beats that.

"I tell them that I am a cross between American and British now..."
So does that make you "Ameritish," Susi? :o)
Great W/O entry! I do hope I get to visit England at least once in my life. As for Florida, I was there 18 months ago. The most curious sights were all those alligator signs! I'm still wondering about one of them. I mean, just how does one molest an alligator? LOL

Tom,
It was fun to do, and yes I too get my words mixed up. I have to proofread about a dozen times. Also get words the wrong way round, and totally the wrong words.
I am already planning my visit for next year. My second grand-daughter is 19 weeks old. I held her as a 3 month old, and she will probably be walking next time I see her.
Thank you for letting me gate crash the W/O. Glad to see so many Brits here at Epinions.
Cheers,
Susie.

Chris,
Do join in. I read about it and wrote my little piece immediately.
Speaking of Barbara, we are meeting up in Orlando, for dinner, either the 12th or 13th, so looking forward to it.

Deb,
If you privately e-mail me with a telephone number, I just may give you a call. I have so many friends here at Epinions.
Will be meeting Barbara again on the 12th or 13th of this month, in Orlando.
Take care,
Susie.

Re: Will I fit in your suitcase? (Reply to this comment)
by Susie-34668
Sure, but you will have to get to Florida first.
I made a promise to my parents that I would visit every year. This was hard when we owned the 90 seater restaurant, but I would go back for just 5 days.
With Mum gone now, it is essential that I visit with Dad. Actually I have been 17 times, because my Mum passed away one November, so I went twice that year.
As I get older it is harder to do the trip, but family is so important.
If I win the lottery you will be on your way.
Susie.

The measure of a true Brit... (Reply to this comment)
by spiderkid
Is to be able to maintain a deep love and loyalty to ones country, whilst being able to appreciate and embrace another culture fully - as you seem to have done judging by this lovely homily to your British roots.
I know just what you mean about the American fascination with 'real British people'... every time I go there I feel like a minor celebrity! Really is rather good for ones self esteem...
Perhaps it's that in the UK we're so constantly exposed to the American accent on TV and the movies, that we're a little more habituated to it.
I also know just what you mean about the wretched yellow highlighter on every review I write! Trouble is, being dyslexic, I often don't know whether I've just spelled it wrong, so I give in when really I should be fighting to save our quirky language and spelling thereof.
Anyways, wonderful job here, very insightful!
I hope you get back to bonny England soon.
Cheers
Tom

I've been think too about joining the W/O... I hope I get the time! I think the Welsh contingent needs a say LOL
Barbara commented how wonderfully "English" you were when she met you, at the end of the "travel chat" a week or so ago (we were talking about fellow Eeps members we had met- moi zero!). I must confess I didn't appreciate just how much having British roots is noticed in the US.
I did spot a "Really neat" comment in your review! - perhaps after another 16 or 160 years that English will have faded away - lol
Great stuff!

Susie,
Once again, I was right with you when you described the slabs under your feet. I loved reading this essay about you and your roots. Can't wait until you tell us more! I wish that I could hear you speak the wonderful words you wrote.
My best,

Every year when I go back
Alright, that made me insanely jealous. I moved to Canada in 1976 when I was young(er) and because of the circumstances of life have never had the opportunity to return for a visit. I wish I could spend a few months there, rediscovering the places that are fading from memory and seeing the many places I never had a chance to. I love Canada but England will always be my home.
Thanks for the heads-up on the write-off, I'm thinking! (I know, that's a scary thought in itself.)
