Blatantly Spiritual (hopefully Biblical) Thought - Vol. 2: God's Glory

The Bottom Line ...a chance to think about God's glory. If you don't feel like it, you might want to skip this one.

Once again... - Hopefully, at the least, this will give you insight into the way a (evangelical) Christian thinks. I hope it doesn’t rub anyone the wrong way. If it does, try to explain it plainly in the comments section, so I can have insight into the way you think.

We would do well to remove all semblances of pride from our lives. Specifically, we must remove the pride telling us that we know how God’s glory will be revealed to us. Our ways are not His ways. God’s goal is to show us His glory. God’s goal is to show us how great His name is. We suffer from a disease of introspecting our circumstances. We’re like Job asking God over and over to explain “why” to us, …put us up for trial, we don’t deserve what’s being dished out to us. Instead of this, we need to be looking at how our circumstances are leading us to discover God’s glory.

When we get a glimpse of how things are pushing us toward visions of God’s glory, we end up in a landslide of glory-filled ideas captivating our every moment. When this glimpse becomes a reality, it only makes sense to admit that every moment must be given to God to show us His beauty, size, and magnitude.

Adjusting to the avalanche of God’s glory is simply the first step. For God to be glorified to the highest, He must keep putting us in situations that challenge us. See, God is a bottomless reservoir of majesty and glory. Life is God taking us on a tour of the marvels of his underwater creation. Along the way, we struggle at times, because we’re afraid that we can’t breathe. We kick and pull for the surface. But, then, God reminds us that we’re descending into the beauty of His majesty.

So many people are fighting desperately on the surface. They battle the exhaustion of treading water their whole lives. They have an idea of the glory of God, but they haven’t given themselves over to it, so they’ve never experiences the joy of allowing His wonder to encompass them. If they would just entrust themselves to God, relax, and sink into the glory-filled life of knowing God, they could find peace and joy waiting for them.

Faith can move mountains. This thought becomes clearer when seen in light of the daunting situations God puts Himself in. As we sink deeper with God into this reservoir, God keeps putting Himself in positions that look impossible to us. We ask ourselves, can I see God’s glory in these financial difficulties? Can I see God’s splendor in the midst of this illness?

Our trying times challenge our view of God. We continually demand God to tell us what He’s doing. Has it ever dawned on us that we might not understand even if He told us? Would you understand if your doctor took the time to explain the intricate formula behind your shot and how it’s battling the viruses? Of course not, you simply take his word that it’s going to affect your body positively.

The same is true when we ask God the “why” questions. We may never understand the details of “why”, but, the broader answer always remains the same. There’s still part of us that has not yet grasped a part of God.

This is where our view of our self can be made clear. Before the struggle came, we were sure that we knew God as well as we could. This pride is what typically leads us back to questions of “why” and “what for”. A humble view of ourselves leads us to realize that understanding an infinite God will mean that He’ll have to show Himself to us in a variety of ways.

To an infinitely large God, things such as money, sickness, and even death are not the big issues. Big issues are sin, pride, and lies of Satan. God wants to do anything He can to remove those three things from your life so that you can get a greater idea of His glory. His glory in our lives is shadowed by the impure things.
