| eTom's Full Review: General Reviews of SunCom Customer Service |
I have three Suncom phones on three different contracts. I have referred several people to Suncom due to their great service.
One person I referred began having problems with her phone (not Suncom's fault). She found out that the phone was beyond the one year warranty, so she decided to get another Suncom phone and a new contract. Since the phone was older than a year, she assumed the service was month to month. Wrong! She had been renewed for another year automatically. It is in the contract, but I have signed three contracts and never noticed it.
I called Suncom to find out the status of my phones. Two of the three have already renewed. I tried to cancel them today, effective at the end of the new contract date, but was told I must call back 30 days before the contract ends. They do not make things easy.
As soon as the new contract dates arrive, I will be canceling my service and moving to another service provider. There are too many free perks involved in a new cell phone contract - free phones, minutes, etc. to let them automatically renew a contract without compensation.
UPDATE!
I spoke to the sales person that sold me the contract at one of the Suncom stores. She advised me to call Customer Service and ask for the Retention Department. After playing 20 questions with the Customer Service agent, I was connected to retention. The agent I spoke with was very understanding and said this was a big source of complaints. He placed all three of my contracts on a month to month basis. I now have no plans to change my service.
He said Suncom plans to change the contract, but he was not sure exactly how. Hopefully, the new contracts will remove the automatic renewal clause. If they do, I will rewrite this review to reflect the new contract terms. Until this is changed, I stand by my recommendation to avoid Suncom.
