I would like to post this about SunCom I have there unplan I recieved a letter from them stating.
As a result of your usage patterns this letter is to advise you that we are exercising our right to change your service plan per the SunCom terms & conditions sections 3 "Changes To This Agreement"
Your current plan is the SunCom UNPLAN SVC. Your new plan will be the SunCom SC USA 2500 this plan will cost me $250.00 a month for 2500 minutes of usage. It also states if we do not hear from you by March 30, 2004 we will change your rate plan to to the rate plan indicated above.
Respectfully,
Rose Jones
SunCom Credit and Activations

My call back to them was a waist of my time the first call they offered to let me out of my contract right on the spot with no early leave fees I said no. I counter offered them I said I would cut back on my calls and reminded them I had been with them 3 years she said no deal what was I thinking I thought, I have The UNPLAN that said talk as much as you want and as often as you like for anywhere in the country for $59.95 as long as you were in your free zone and I was in my free zone. My next call to them was almost the same except they offered me other plans they said stay on a new plan for 3 months control my calling then I could change back to my old plan I knew where this was going I could smell a rat I knew I would never get my plan that I had back I asked why they were doing this to me since I was on there free towers she said they were not free it cost electric to run towers. I have filed a complant with the Better Business Bureau and I have contacted the FCC on this matter also my paper work from them is in the mail. I URGE ANYONE WHO IS HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH SunCOM to do the same

SunCom: WATCH OUT!! (Reply to this comment)
by saltschul
Once you have signed a contract with SunCom they are are more concerned with how they can prosper from the technicalities of the contract and deceptive billing practices rather than by rendering service. Consider the following:

1) They renew without notice. YOU must keep track of the renewal date. If you miss the renewal date by a few days, they will obligate you for an additional year.
2) You must cancel within a 30 day window to avoid additional charges or an additional year of contract. You can't tell them you don't want to renew unless you do so between 30 and 60 days before the renewal date.
3) If you change you plan, they START A NEW RENEWAL DATE.
4) They charge for changing your plan.
5) If you have a credit balance on a discontinued account, they do not notify you.
6) If you discontinue your account and owe for a partial month, they bill you for a full month. It's up to you to call them and ask them how much you REALLY OWE.

Is this picture clear enough? They will use any practice they can get away with to keep you under contract and to get you to pay money that you don't really owe. When you speak to "Customer Support" about these issues the representatives can quote you which line of the contract says what. I'd be very curious to see how much of their revenue come from these practices.

Another SunCom fall back....or two (Reply to this comment)

I am attaching a copy of a letter I sent to SunCom and Triton Inc (Corporate holder of SunCom). I hope this helps others in their quest to find a suitable cellular carrier.

To Triton Inc:
I am forwarding to you a copy of the letter I just wrote to SunCom customer service. It sums up my experiences with your company in the 6 short weeks I have been under contract with them. I will continue to forward this letter to anyone who will read it. My disappointment and regret at having chosen your company to meet my needs is immeasuable.

To SunCom:
I am writing to express once again my intense disatisfaction with your service, your plans and basically your company as a whole. I have talked to the store I bought my phone/contract in, various representatives on the phone, and a supervisor. My first disatisfaction with your company is that prior to signing my contract I asked if I could monitor my account on line. I was told yes. That is not true. I cannot "monitor" my account as in check to see the stats of my usage. The only thing I can do is pay my bill, and even that I can only do if I set up recurring billing. I know I cannot judge my usage properly and would never have signed a contract had my question been answered thoroughly. So I wait to get my bill, which is over by 130 mins. My bad judgement yes, but as I said, I am a poor judge and therefore know I NEED to have access to an estimate of my time used (offered by my previous server)Not only that, but my bill does not tell me what calls I have made. So of course you see where that is going..the next thing I find out is now I have pay EXTRA if I want to see who I have called after the fact and after my bill is generated.( I always received a detailed bill with my previous server) So now I am upset about two things. So I finally figure I will go with the UnPlan...at a greater monthly expense then my previous contract with another carrier (my main objective is coming to SunCom was to SAVE MONEY!!)I reluctantly call Sun Serv to change my plan and what am I told...there is a $35 fee to change plans!! I had specifically asked the store rep if I could change plans and I was told Yes. Never was a fee mentioned. So now, not only am I disatisfied, but I am feeling blantantly deceived. At this point in time I can tell you I will NEVER refer your company to anyone, and will express my intense disatisfaction at every opportunity.

in most areas... (Reply to this comment)

..suncom is actually a reseller of AT&T who also has this practice of auto-renewing the contracts. (it is in the terms and conditions of the contract..).. anyway.. AT&T was sued in several states over this auto renewal, and they have stopped in most areas.. you may want to check to see if your state has any leglistation regarding auto renewal of contracts... in the least, it is not a customer friendly practice..
