| xmovieloverx's Full Review: The Bourne Ultimatum |
Being an avid fan of The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy, I was thoroughly excited upon viewing The Bourne Ultimatum. Although I preferred the first film in the series, The Bourne Ultimatum is still an action packed thriller worth seeing for fans of the original movies.
Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) is back...And this time, he's really on a quest to find out his true identity and background. Jason has been a hired killer for the U.S government for the past few years, however, he cannot remember anything before he became an assassin. Noah Vosen (David Strathairn) of the C.I.A considers Bourne a national threat to security and wants him dead.
After Jason Bourne meets Simon Ross, (Paddy Considine) a journalist who seems to know much about Bourne, Ross is quickly sniped and killed in the middle of a mall. This is where the real cat and mouse game begins...
The Bourne Ultimatum is incredibly fast paced and extremely suspenseful. There are numerous action sequences including one of the best car chases I have ever seen. On top of that, Jason Bourne seems to be a martial arts expert, and he beats up many individuals in a very entertaining Jackie Chan-like style. However, this sparks my only complaint. The shakiness. Seriously, I swear that multiple scenes were shot with a device not much more technologically advanced than a home video camera. For those of you who are prone to motion sickness, I would honestly reconsider viewing this in a theater. Tripod anyone?
The acting and script is superb. This trilogy has really shined in that aspect. Matt Damon is a perfect Bourne and a great spy for that matter! He refuses to overact which I ultimately respected. Matt Damon certainly deserves an Oscar award or a certification of high caliber, however, I am sure that it will never happen due to this flicks genre. Noah Vosen is amazing as the rogue C.I.A agent.
Other worthily mentions include Julia Stiles as Agent Nicky Parsons and Joan Allen as Pamela Landy. They are the only friends Bourne has and both of them play convincing roles.
Do you have to see The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy before viewing the third installment? The answer is, yes! I found the plot in Ultimatum somewhat confusing at times, and I can't possibly imagine myself comprehending any of its material had I not sat through its predecessors.
Overall, although I wasn't a "huge" fan of the camera-work, The Bourne Ultimatum is a must-see for those who enjoyed the previous films.
