| Suzer's Full Review: Slim Fast Easy to Digest Coffee Shakes |
The good news is that I discovered that the supplement I was taking for knee and back pain was 99% of the reason I was experiencing serious digestive difficulties. Once I made this discovery I went from eating one chicken breast and white rice once daily, (all my stomach could tolerate) to grabbing anything edible in sight. The bad news is that amazingly (not) I put on 5-7 pounds of lard.
After the pleasant surprise sunk in, and after realizing okay, you feel great now, but you're gaining weight, I decided to purchase a meal replacement product. I was very pleased to see that Slim Fast now has their shakes available without lactose (I am still lactose intolerant). Many years ago I tried to drink Slim Fast shakes, but ended up with a very upset stomach. This product is not only lactose free, but free of gluten, so should meet the needs of many more people.
I was actually excited to find these shakes at my local Ralph's Market. I love coffee, and was hopeful this flavor would be delicious. These shakes contact 50% of the daily value of vitamins B6, B12, calcium and 45% Vitamin D according to Unilever. They also note that they help control your hunger as protein and fiber are supposed to satiate you. It also is said to provide 50% of your daily calcium, 24 vitamins & minerals, and these shakes only have 180 calories each. The fiber content is 3 grams. They do warn that they are not appropriate for anyone with galactosemia.

Packaging:
These shakes are found in your brick and mortar stores as well as online. They will most likely be more expensive if you purchase at the grocery store or drugstore. I saw them for the first time in the grocery store, and paid around $9.00 for the cardboard container with 4 of the coffee shakes. Each can holds 11 fluid ounces of scrumptious, well almost palatable coffee shake.
My experience:
Okay, so I got home with my new find, refrigerated them as I felt that would enhance the taste. After they were chilled I grabbed one, shook it well, and popped open the flip top. While they suggest the shakes as a snack between meals or to drink along with something else, I was hoping it would satisfy my hunger by itself. When I tasted it, it seemed to have a rough consistency. I'm not sure why as I did shake it well. It tasted vaguely chocolate to me. I slightly noticed a little coffee taste to it, but very very little. Did it satisfy me? Not at all. I did drink it slowly, and waited a half hour, then needed something else to really fill me up.
Final thoughts:
If you want to lose weight, or merely have a quick easy shake in lieu of your usual lunch (soup, sandwich, salad, whatever) you can certainly give these shakes a try. We all have different tastes and preferences, but the less than appealing (okay, nasty) taste of the shakes, and the inability to fill me up left me disappointed and hungry. Not a good thing. If you decide to purchase the Slim Fast Easy to Digest Coffee Shakes, be sure to read the warnings provided on the packaging prior. On the plus side, it does contain a lot of excellent vitamins, minerals, is relatively low calorie, and did not cause digestive problems. I am giving them 2 1/2 stars. As good as they may be for you, if you can't tolerate the flavor, and they don't satisfy your tummy, what good do they do? Oh, and they do have a high sugar content additionally.
