Why does the bottom line come first? Shouldn't it be at the BOTTOM!?!?

Over the past day or so of reading you're installments on being a goalie, I was stunned to see how truely helpful they are. You see, I am a 15 year old female who has been playing Hockey for the past two years. Now obviously, starting a sport in the 8th grade was extremely difficult because of how far behind the other players I was "skill-wise". I just finished my second season which ended up being extremely successful, partly due to my increasing improvement. Now that I am no longer able to play at the "U-14" level (basically equivalent to bantams, except for girls), I have been debating if I should tryout for my high school team or not. I have talked to my dad about this issue, and he really wants me to play... Regardless if I think I'm good enough or not. Anyways, where I'm going with this is that my high school team only has two goalies, both of which who are pretty weak from a forward's perspective, not to mention in the 8th grade. The manager of this team then asked me if I would want to strap on the pads and tryout for the team as a netminder! I was estatic that I would have the honor of doing this. So, reading your epinions on the topic of goaltending really made me realize that goalies do more than just stand around in the blue paint, trying to "stone" all of the snipers out there. I'd like to thank you for the depth of your insight and all of the personal stories you included, making this pure joy to read.

I've never played with an NHLer. In fact, I've never played.

I've been watching since I was 6, and been a big fan since I was 12. I even have autographs from Charlie Simmer, Marcel Dionne, Rogie Vachon, and a few other 70's heroes (go Kings!)

But I did once play a pick-up game of soccer with none other than Johann Cruyff - sure, a 50 year old Cruyff, but still.

From that, I can totally understand how you felt that day, and how it stays with you.

PS, your instructional effort was muy bueno as well.

Thanks Lisa,
I never thought that I would write so much here. But it has been strangely addictive and fun.
