Ignore The Rest, These Are The Best. Hey That Rhymes!Jul 08 '04 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line I have been watching horror movies since I was about 7 years old and feel I have seen many movies in the genre and know what I'm talking about... What the heck is it with this genre within the past 20 years? I mean I think that out of all the horror movies that have come out in the past 20 years maybe 5% are watchable. I mean whoever thinks that any of the several remakes of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre or the Resident Evil movie are any good are just taken over by the major marketing campaigns that major studios put out or are just complete morons who have no taste in movies whatsoever! The only movies recently that I think were any good are for example: 28 Days Later, The Ring, and I enjoyed Freddy Vs. Jason for some odd reason! 10. The Exorcist The first time I saw this movie I was about 7 or 8 and it scared the crap out of me. However, when I saw it about 7 years later I thought it was actually quite funny. I do think that it is a perfect movie from start to finish. It keeps you in your seat wanting more and waiting to see what will happen to the little girl. Great movie, lots of fun! 9. Rosemary's Baby I am not to fond of classic horror movies or any old movies really. Maybe 2% catch my attention. I did after all enjoy Some Like It Hot, Return Of The Pink Panther, The Apartment, and oh no, Singing In The Rain. Anyways, Rosemary's Baby was a rather dull film for the beginning at least. After that I got more into it and wanted to see the damn baby! You must see this movie. It is scary but does not have any major gore or anything. It is more psychologically chilling I guess. 8. Evil Dead I was gonna put Evil Dead 2 or Army Of Darkness here but I decided that due to the originals budget and creativity it had to go here. Evil Dead starring Bruce Campbell was a genre defining piece. It combined slapstick physical comedy with a serious evil lurking the forest. Although the latter 2 movies, especially Army Of Darkness, were made to be funnier I enjoy this first one. It was cheap, but what it lacked in budget, it made up for in substance. 7. The Beyond Lucio Fulci, the director has made some amazing horror movies. Zombie, The Beyond, House By The Cemetary, etc.. This movie is my favorite though. Also called the 7 doors of death, The Beyond is so freaking freaky. I mean a doorway to hell in a basement of a hotel is so awesome. I really love this movie and can watch it a million times. I just recently purchased it on DVD. 6. Hellraiser Pinhead is my favorite all time horror movie character. His presence is just awesome. Is he an angel or a devil? Pain or pleasure? He'll eat your soul. What I like about the first 3 Hellraiser movies is that there is limited viewing of Pinhead and the rest of the demon cenobites on the screen so it makes for an exciting feeling and you just know there is gonna be a cool death scene coming up. Great movie! 5. The Omen Satans kid is the star of this one which was made into a few more sequels, which although being horrible did come up with some of the coolest death sequences ever! You must watch this movie if you are a horror movie fan 4. Night Of The Living Dead What an amazing and perfect film this is. The black and white just helps it out so much. The first time I saw this movies was back in 1990 and I was up real late. After watching this movie I could not go back to sleep. It is a very claustrophobic movie, just like all the George Romero dead movies. I loved it. 3. Dawn Of The Dead I actually prefer this to Night Of The Living Dead. I just love how huge this movie is. The interaction between all the characters in the mall and all the gore really does it for me. Favorite Scene: when the guy puts his arm into the heart rate machine and the zombies chew off his arm while it is still in there and the machine goes off and reads zeros across the board. 2. Nightmare On Elm Street Freddy Kreguer has been in my life for as long as I could remember. I still get kind of freaked out when I see the early NOES pictures. However, over the rest of the series his character becomes less scary and more of a one-liner machine. The first movie is the best in the series 1. The Shining What a great movie this is. Sort of reminds me a little of Dawn Of The Dead without the zombies. A very claustrophobic, trapped feeling movie with so much psychological damage its amazing. The lady in the shower and the 2 girl twins always freak me out. REDRUM! REDRUM! |
