The Bottom Line This really is a high quality beer that tastes excellent and has a nice kick, just wish it was less expensive.
I have decided to do a couple more beer reviews, recently on a trip to my favorite specialty market (Central Market) I purchased a couple new beers I have never tried that seemed very interesting, the beer I would like to share with you tonight is called Piraat Ale. I’m assuming that this might not be an easy beer to come by at least in Wa. State because I have never seen it before anywhere thus creating my curiosity for it. Ok about the beer.. Made by Brouwerij Van Steenberge in Ertvelde, Belgium. you will feel like you are at a pub in Belgium Voted overall Best Amber Beer (Gold medal) in the California Microbrew Beer Festival 1995. First appearance of the bottle label, it has a picture of a Pirate & a Pirate Ship Sailing in the ruff Sea’s. Bottle is slightly smaller then standard, 11.2 oz. Instead of 12 oz. This is very strong, highly flavored ale that actually is a triple fermented India pale ale in style, Although to me it does not taste like a I.P.A. it seemed sweeter in taste. It has a spicy malt aroma, and I thought it was deliciously light and flavorful. But the kicker is the alcohol content this little baby is 10.5% by volume… This is the strongest beer I’ve drank so far, and surprisingly doesn’t taste as strong as some of the stout’s I enjoy even though it is much higher alcohol content. Actually rather smooth for the high Alcohol level. This is a dark gold and hazy in color beer with a great head when poured. Piraat is also re-fermented in the bottle making it a living beer. I do prefer stout beers to all other’s especially imperial stout’s, but I think ale’s are generally more accepted. As far as a final epinion I do think this would be a great beer to drink for a special occasion, especially if money was no object, I paid the ridiculous price of 4.99 for one bottle, I do believe that this beer could be purchased for less I think I paid a very premium price So if you can find this at a reasonable price, and you like this style of belgian ale I do believe it is of a very high quality, and you will enjoy it very much.  |
