Pros: CINEMATOGRAPHY AND STUNT WORK
Cons: Too many characters asking Bourne: You really don't remember? Duh.
The Bottom Line: Recommended. Plot was overdone but who cares. The action was over the top.

| craftswoman's Full Review: The Bourne Ultimatum |
The Following is a True Story:
Craftswoman, also known as Marcy decided to use the movie pass she won at work by guessing some silly movie trivia questions. After searching online to see what movies were playing, she decided to see The Bourne Ultimatum.
Her mission: to find an AMC theater that had convenient Bourne showings and would take her pass.
Known for her organizational skills, Craftswoman searched online the night before she planned to see Bourne. She went to movietickets.com and looked for AMC Bourne. Since she races to work everyday and is pressured daily at work, she wanted to be sure she had her ducks in a row so she could drive at a leisurely pace to see Bourne; to get there in plenty of time in the event she wanted to partake of food and drink in the theater.
On the website, she clicked on The Bourne Ultimatum. It took her to the movie theaters within a 15 mile range. She saw Greenwood Park 14, a theater she has been to many times before and clicked. Craftswoman saw The Bourne Ultimatum up at the top of the page but next to it was a gray circle with a slash through it. She looked left at the legend and it showed that passes are not taken for Bourne. Rats. Shell have to find another theater. So, she clicked on The Bourne Ultimatum again and it took her back to the page that lists all the theaters within a 15 mile distance. She clicked on Kerasotes Showplace 16 and then The Bourne Ultimatum. Low and behold, there was no gray circle with a slash through it at this theater. Thrilled, she wrote the times and, just in case, the phone number and decided on the 11:30 am show.
The fact that Kerasotes was not an AMC theater didnt occur to her at this time. That was her first mistake.
Craftswoman, thinking that she is a crafty woman, awoke early the next day and decided she wanted pancakes for breakfast. She makes them from scratch. This is nothing for Craftswoman because she has made these pancakes many, many times before. However, she seems to forget how long it takes to make a batch of pancakes from scratch and thinking that she is thinking ahead, she triples the recipe so she can have some for breakfast during the week.
Unfortunately, tripling the recipe takes longer because you have more pancakes to pour and cook on the griddle. That was her second mistake.
She barely finished eating at 10:55 am. Wow! she thought, Id better get dressed and run for it. She threw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, slipped into a pair of shoes, shoved the plate of pancakes into the fridge and headed for the garage. I can still make it with maybe 10 minutes to spare.
She gets on the highway, a little rushed but makes good time as she exits to drive north on US31. She walks into the theater and their clock says 11:10 am. Is that possible? She shrugs and assumes they must have their clocks set slow for all the late-comers. She digs her pass out of her purse and hands it to the clerk.
We dont take AMC passes here. They are at the shopping center. What? But it said online that
..Oh, great. Never one to miss a beat, Craftswoman caught on right away. Disappointed, she realized she would have to drive to the AMC theater and pick some other movie that would accept her pass. She wasnt sure about any of the times for the other movies and she didnt much care anymore. She got into her car and when she reached the top of the hill and peered down the road she could not believe her eyes: there was a mass car pileup with cars, ambulances, police cars, you name it, all across four lanes of traffic.
Why me?
Quickly thinking, she swerved to the left lane to make a jaunt around the accident scene. This was good. She made a right turn on Manaker Street because it sounded familiar. This was bad. AKA: third mistake. Others followed her. None of them knew where they were going. She ended up in a church parking lot, in the midst of the turmoil. Undaunted, she turned around out of the parking lot and drove away from the accident and tried another street going south. This worked.
Craftswoman arrived at the AMC theater and tried to decide what other movie she would like to see. There really wasnt much she was interested in. She didnt even know what time it was anymore. She didnt know why, but she asked the cashier, Can I use this pass to see The Bourne Ultimatum? Sure, he said. She couldnt believe her ears. She asked him what time it was and had the movie started. He said that they were still showing the previews.
Why not me?
Delighted, she dashed away from the window and he called to her saying, "Your tickets
.you forgot your tickets!! So, she dashed back to get her tickets and he gave her four of them. She didnt know why since she was the only one going to see the movie. So, she handed two of them to the ticket taker and said, I dont know what Im doing. The ticket taker didnt even blink an eye and handed back one ticket and tore the other in half. Craftswoman rushed into the dark theater and climbed some stairs, saw some empty seats and plopped down.
Big Sigh!!!!! So much for a relaxing day away from work. Little did she know what she was in for.
The Movie
Ive never seen so many close, close-up shots in a movie in all the movies Ive ever seen. The action in this movie is a blur. Literally, blurry shots are in many scenes to give you the feel of the fast action. The shaky camera work also gives you the feel of the fast action. The music gives you the feel of fast action. The crowds, the quick cuts from shot to shot: action, action, ACTION!
You think Steve McQueens movie had a chase scene worth remembering? Hah! Waitll you see the car crashes at the end. Absolutely, positively unbelievable. I particularly loved the motorcycle chases. Kudos to the stunt guy who performed them.
Spiderman, Superman, Aquaman, 007, Evil Knieval and Rocky Balboa, eat your hearts out. Anything you can do, Bourne can do better. Bourne can do anything better than you.
The Cast
Matt Damon
Julia Stiles
David Strathairn
Scott Glenn
Paddy Considine
Edgar Ramirez
Albert Finney
Joan Allen
Tom Gallop
Corey Johnson
Daniel Bruhl
Joey Ansah
Colin Stinton
The American cast was fine but the shady, un-American-looking actors who played the terrorists were perfect. We expect good acting from Damon. He has proven himself many times. Others in the cast are familiar faces; we may not know their names but we have seen them dozens of times before.
Cinematography and Stunt Work
The aerial shots of London, New York, Morocco and other cities were great. There were little snippet shots of stores that you might know if you had visited these places. I wish I was in New York when they shot the New York scenes although it was sad to not see the twin towers on the horizon. Academy awards should go to the cinematographers and stunt drivers.
Acting and Storyline
I really liked Damon in this flick. Hes matured and more of a man than the boyish-looking actor hes left behind.
I particularly liked the scene between Damon and Julia Stiles who plays Nicky Parsons, an agent who is sympathetic to Bournes plight. Its the only scene where you get to catch your breath for a few seconds.
I could tell the men in the theater were really eating up this movie. However, ladies you will enjoy it too because without giving too much away, a female character outsmarts them all.
As far as storyline, plot, what have you, not much was believable to me. I found myself thinking, Oh, come on. This was just another Hollywood espionage film as far as I was concerned. But, if you think of it as just entertainment, like you would with any action-hero movie, youll be in for a good time. I think I had seen one of the other Bourne movies previously but you really dont need to see either of them in order to get this one.
Basically, Bourne wants to know about his past because he cant seem to remember how he got to be where he is today. Two women characters sympathetic to him help him. I know I would. Sorry guys. This is a female point of view to this movie.
I walked in grumpy and out of breath. I walked out with a smile on my face.
I see another sequel.
Final Thoughts
Finally safe in her home, Craftswoman says aloud, Wow, that trip took one year off my life! I think Ill just stick to dvds.
