| alexanderaku's Full Review: Pella Windows and Doors |
Some thirty years back, I decided to build my current home. One of my criteria was the inclusion of double pane glass, double-hung windows, and a sliding double pane patio door. Pella filled the bill then and continues to do so with excellence.
Okay, I use Windows Vista Ultimate X64, and it has been an excellent operating system I've used without problem. What does that have to do with Pella windows? Well, I have a beautiful "vista" from my Pella windows and you might say Pella has pleased me with something along the lines of the best "ultimate" decision - one arrived at as a thought some thirty years back. The fact none of my Pella windows or doors has ever offered a problem, beyond the thirty year old screen frames having begun to lightly corrode, says my decision was an excellent one.
The Pella design means there is no cold air circulating on the inside near my windows and doors during wintertime. This cuts heating and airconditioning costs considerably and offers the benefit of a quieter interior while outside there may be quite a loud commotion going on - making it easier to relax during hectic times. Also, the design prevents moisture build-up to maintain clear views at all times.
The thirty-six double-pane Pella Designer windows in my 30 yr. old home are wood with vinyl window riser tracks, and built with a very high degree of craftsmanship. Removable wooden dividers are held in place between the large panes of outer and inner glass by a spring loaded ball catch system. The interior panes of glass are held in place by a system of metal catches built into the metal frame of the pane and allow access for cleaning of the inner sides of both panes - or staining of the dividers, blinds, and inner wood surfaces. The precision and operation of this is still as excellent today as it was thirty years ago.
The windows sashes are held in place by vinyl guides and each can be flipped within the frame for easy cleaning of the outside glass while standing inside - once the outside window screens have been removed, the windows are unlocked, and they are moved into the needed position. The effort required to do this is minimal and all can be accomplished from inside. The spring-loaded metal window locks and brown nylon window handles of every window in my home works with ease, functions, and looks as it did brand new.
As I recall, my widows shipped with a primer coating. I stained everything using a dark brown stain. Through the years, the wood has received one more coating of stain, some two years back, to maintain the new look they all still have. All of the wood is still in excellent shape and my windows appear and work as they did brand new. Raising and lowering any of them is simple and they will hold any position they are placed in with the tension provided by the vinyl tracks and their internal balancing system.
Both my double pane windows and sliding door offer the use of adjustable internal wooden blinds, which is a very nice looking feature where sunlight would be too bright entering my home or more privacy is desired.
The sliding Designer series door still operates as smoothly as it did when installed so many years ago. Despite the heavy use the patio door receives, It continues to look new with only slight wearing of the finish to the inside metal door handle - that re-painting can easily cure. The screen door still looks new and the overall appearance and function of this heavily used glass and wood door is still excellent after thirty years.
When I needed a new window solution for a 60 year old home, I also own, it was little wonder why I again chose Pella. This time I chose their ThermaStar vinyl double pane replacement sashes for a less expensive solution. I was surprised to see these cheaper windows were no less feature rich and offered the same great sound, thermal, and moisture control as the more expensive ones I purchased 30 years ago. Double panes, these replacement sashes slashed the cooling needed this summer in the 60 year old home over its previous single pane white-frame windows. A quieter interior was immediately noticeable, but the feature I hadn't expected was the mechanisms provided for again "flipping" the windows easily for cleaning both sides from the inside of the home. Cheaper, these replacement sashes are spring loaded and balanced for easy operation - and maintaining of the position the widows are placed in. Easily noticed is again Pella's quality of craftsmanship with precision throughout each sash that was installed.
Expensive or inexpensive, Pella offers a solution for long-life and continuous proper operation in window and door products. Their windows and doors perfectly seal the outside where it should be - outside. They do this with nothing less than excellence. Maybe, Pella windows or doors are the solution you need - they've been around since 1925 and know what they're doing.
