We were shopping for a 30" gas cooktop and had given up on local stores (high prices) when we stumbled across the very cooktop we wanted from Sears.com.
So I July 21 placed the order and used my Visa debit card to pay.
Number One complaint: They charge you IMMEDIATELY for the item--even before they ship it. Amazon.com never does this.
I received an order confirmation email stating the cooktop would be delivered to my local store (of my choice) within 12 to 14 days. Okay, I can wait.
Three days later I got another email saying the delivery would be delayed until August 24. This was not acceptable to me, so following the instructions in the email, I called the local store and asked them to cancel the order. Mind you, nothing had been shipped but they had my money.
It took three people before I got someone who could help. About three days later I got a receipt from the local store showing the order cancelled. However, instead of crediting my Visa debit to refund my money, they credited my Sears account. I never use the Sears account due to excessively high interest rates. So after making several phone calls to their Customer Service team (based in Round Rock Texas) I was getting nowhere.
So a face-to-face meeting was necessary. I went to the local store, spoke directly with the nice lady who helped me cancel the order, went to talk to the manager, got the run-around "You have to talk to Sears credit"
I told them I wasn't leaving without my refund. So the sales lady called Sears credit for me and let me speak to a very nice lady who said they would be happy to send me a check. That was two days ago. We will see if I get a check as promised in 7 to 10 business days.
Bottom line: Be prepared for delays in delivery. NEVER use a debit card to pay for online purchases. If you choose a store for delivery, the order becomes a "store order" and things can get mixed up badly.
