Pros:Affordable,Acceptable Sound Quality,Handset/Page locator
Cons:Doesn't hold a charge for more than 5-6 hours
The Bottom Line: An affordable cordless phone with acceptable sound quality, that has been reliable for us.
Today, telephones are a part of our culture as wagons were to our ancestors. Telephones have become a household necessity and cordless phones are as commonplace as microwaves.
Purchasing a cordless phone is an adventure within itself. When arriving at a department store to make my purchase, I faced an entire wall of cordless phones. There were different sizes, colors, and shapes. They had features that I didn't even know existed, let alone need. I was way out of my league. For crying out loud- I wanted a cordless phone for my kitchen, not a spaceship!
I had no idea purchasing a cordless phone would be so complicated. Many of the features listed on the boxes might as well been printed in another language because it was all greek to me. I had no idea what a megahertz was or how many I needed.
We had numerous problems with cordless phones in the past, namely poor sound quality and echoing. Since price and sound quality were my biggest concern, I decided to ask a salesperson for help. I encountered the dumbest and rudest 18 year old on the planet. I must have a "jerk magnet" on my forehead because I always seem to find them.
The neoteric misanthrope didn't know much more than I did. They must have hired him right out of 8th grade. His only comment to me was, "A phone's a phone and you get what you pay for." What???? I thought he was kidding! I walked away shaking my head in disbelief and bought the first name brand cordless phone that was on sale. It was the AT&T model 9301 and I paid $29.99.
The telephone features(reading off the box):
900 MHz transmission
Headset Compatible
Quick Charge
10 number memory
Page/Handset Locator
Handset Receiver Volume Control
Flash feature
Redial Button
Programmable Ringer
Mute
Selectable Dialing
Hearing aid compatible
Table or wall convertible
Of all those features listed, I am most grateful for one.... the Page/Handset Locator. I have 4 children, all of whom carry the phone off and leave it the most unusual places. Without the page locator....I would NEVER have my phone!! I only wish they put that feature on my remote control!!!!
The sound quality of the phone is acceptable. I have not experienced any echoing or static. The information from the manufacturer says the charge will last for 10 hours. I cannot substantiate that claim. The phone stays charged for 5-6 hours at best. The phone is durable enough to withstand the poundings of me and my children. The phone functions properly when using the redial and the flash buttons when redialing and accessing a waiting call. The other features are ones that I have never used because I simply don't need them.
Overall, this phone performs the duties I require. I am glad that I did not spend a fortune to purchase it. However, I am glad that I can do laundry, make a meatloaf, and chase after the children, all while I'm talking to my best friend in Australia!!!!
