comments that say "What about adoption? There's so many families who want babies..." From an adopted person, let me tell you I'd rather see my teenage daughter get an abortion than give up a child to the adoption system in this country.

That's really the reason I think they want to make abortion illegal. All these nice, white, "Christian" couples wanting a baby - it's all about supply and demand.

So glad you posted this; I always wondered why you never got it around these parts. You're a really good persuasive socio-political writer, so if this whole becoming the next American Idol thing doesn't work out, you could totally do this.

Much love,
Shilo :)

WOW!!! An amazing essay Rachel. You really did drive the point home and made sure your thoughts and views on the matter were clearly stated but you managed to never sound opinionated. I must say that while I don't agree with abortion in any way, I still think every woman should decide for herself whether or not she wants an abortion because it's her CHOICE and I think a person's choices should never be taken away.

Rachel,
This is a wonderful essay! Great job! I agree with you completely. Bringing a child into the world is a huge responsibility, and unless someone is sure that she can give the child the love he/she deserves or place him/her in another loving home, it can be cruel to bring the child to term. I wouldn't have wanted to be born into a dysfunctional and neglectful home. Abusing a child is much more of a tragedy and a crime than not allowing him/her to be born in the first place. Most criminals were abused as children, so it's a vicious cycle.

You go, girl!

Nice job Rachel. You raised some very valid points. I certainly believe that a woman has the right to decide what happens to her own body, although I'll also certainly argue that there are a lot of women out there-at least from my personal experience-who use abortion as an alternate means of birth control, which definitely is not cool.

Thought provoking essay and some valid points...nice job...

Babies can actually survive from 22 weeks.

Interesting issues raised, well argued points on the whole concerning a very complex and emotive debate. Although I don't personally agree with all of them.

Perhaps this article gives another side to the 'parasite' theory..
