Pros: Clean gym with adequate weight equipment and good cardio options for 10 per month.
Cons: -No trial membership allowed,
-Tacky customer service
The Bottom Line: I would say no based on the customer service. The actual gym seems like a nice environment for beginners though.

I tried the planet fitness in Greece New York. I have some family and friends who are new to working out who recommended it to and told me it was 10 a month. For that price I didn't expect much but figured that it was worth a try.
I didnt get a chance to try the gym. When I inquired about trial memberships to the kid upfront he just said we don't do that the joining fee is 40 and its 10 a month. He then proceed to ask me to pay right there!.
There was not even an offer of a tour or a willingness to explain what the gym had or offered. I asked for more information to look at and he just gave me a piece of paper which said nothing more than what they advertised.
I politely thanked him and left, what a turnoff. Ive never seen any gym not offer some sort of trial.
If a gym that doesnt want experienced lifters wants a sure fire way of repelling them, having this policy seems to be an effective way of doing this.
My thought is that anyone who goes to gyms on any sort or regular basis is going to want some sort of trial. A one week trial or even a one day trial or at least a tour is helpful. To expect someone to pay 40 dollars before figuring out that they may not feel its a fit is ridiculous. In any business expecting upfront money before any type of trial or information is bad policy.
By the way, I'm just an average Joe who has worked out for years. I'm not a grunting bodybuilder type or a muscle head. I'm not intimidating looking and am always quiet and respectful when I workout. That being said, I do believe what most of these negative reviewers are saying based on my experience. On the positive side, I think that Planet Fitness is a nice option for beginners so it has its place. They really need to consider changing their policies though.
