Readers of my past reviews know that my daughter (and I) are enamored with the very realistic and wholesome Only Hearts Club Dolls. These simple cloth dolls provide a realistic body image for pre-teens and a positive message about self-esteem and self-worth. There are a total of six dolls and their pet dogs in the collection, as well as a variety of accessories like clothes, sleeping bags, additional pets, and some furniture.
Though the dolls are a bit pricier ($14.95) than the average Barbie doll, it didn’t take us long to collect all six dolls between birthday, Christmas, and so on. We also have a modest number of accessories (sleeping bag, sofa, and assorted outfits). The problem was how to keep track of these items, separately from the HUGE barbie/Bratz storage bin of lost and unloved toys. Enter, the Only Hearts Club Tote Bag…
Only Hearts Club Tote Bag
To be honest, I avoided this item for quite awhile because it was SO expensive ($29.99). That’s what I would spend for a Lands’ End zippered canvas bag. Spend this much for a toy tote bag? I think not! OK, um… Well, this cute tote bag called to me, repeatedly, every time I gazed at the display at Target. Right before Christmas, I finally gave in. Recognize, that was BEFORE I became single mom poor.
So what is so special about this tote bag to spend all this money on it? Well, it’s pink. Is that enough? No? OK, well this was the clincher for me. On the outside of the bag are six zippered pouches (three on each side) for storing each of the precious Only Hearts Club Dolls. Each pouch holds the respective doll up to her armpits, much like a sleeping bag. Not sure why the side zipper on each pouch is necessary but it does help simulate the sleeping bag concept. On the front of each doll pouch is a big polka dotted orange bow. How cute is that?
The tote bag itself is 14 inches wide and 9 inches tall. It has two round handles, one on each side. Inside the bag is one large pouch for holding doll accessories (clothes, furniture, etc.). It holds all of the accessories we own, though the sofa is a bit of tight fit and is usually stored outside the bag. The outside of the bag is a pink heavy duty fabric with vertical pinstripes of green and yellow. Best of all, this doll tote comes with a mini detachable pet tote, with the same basic shape and handles as the main tote. I wish I could tell you more about the detachable tote but, alas, our pet tote has gotten VERY detached and is, at the moment, missing in action.
Dr_Steph’s Recommendation
Personally, I really like this bag. My daughter likes it, too, but not as much as me, probably because it isn’t really a toy you can play with. However, she did discover that at least three of her dolls could have a sleepover together using this bag (six dolls if she didn't mind three of them being face down). Bottom line is that she uses this tote bag to store her Only Hearts Club Dolls and accessories and that makes them much easier to locate when she wants to play with them.
I still feel a bit embarrassed that I spent that much on a toy tote bag. However, you can be luckier than me. I noticed they are being sold on Amazon.com for $23.99. If you have Only Hearts Club Dolls, you need to get the tote bag.
