The Bottom Line This is only part one of my concert experience, but I will say that The PIXIES and RADIOHEAD absolutely went off the charts AWESOME for this seasoned concert goer!!!!
My Best Friend ( lets just call her Kitty) wanted to give me the awesome gift of Coachella Valley Music Festival tickets for my birthday. She knew I was crazy insane for RADIOHEAD and the PIXIES and even though she wasnt sure about going with, she bought me 2 tix ( one for me and one for her) for my 41st b-day. Ok, well she did try desperately to get out of going with me, but I really wanted her to go, so she conceeded, after many attempts for me to get anyone but her to go. Like , I said, she wasnt really into the bands and she is kinda high maintance chick and when she realized there would be like over 50, 000 pax there, well, lets just say it took some convincing. We live about 5 miles from the Polo Grounds, so she convinced me to get my hubby to drop us off there and then get a taxi home. At that point, whatever she wanted I was ready to oblige. Now, I have been to the FEST before, to see Janes Addiction (AWESOME), so I kinda knew the layout and what and where to go and do and stuff. I had found out that BECK had been signed on at the last minute , so I was really stoked, even though WILCO had dropped off the bill. In any case, truth be told, Thom Yorke and RADIOHEAD were the total draw for me and just seing them would of been ok. Well, back to the story...My hubby dropped us off into a serious crowd of concert goers and my friend Kitty and I had to walk some way to the main entranced. Here I was totally dressed like a hesher and she has on her $300.00 orange leather backpack purse, AF cargo trousers, GAP halter and all her gold jewelry (TOTAL TARGET). When we got to the main entrance, it was at least an hour of queue waiting for us. She said lets try this VIP entrance and we did and we got right in. (This is a tip for anyone reading). No questions asked, except the standard backpack check. Cool, I thought...she might be handy after all :). We pretty much ran in, bought some bottled water ( no outside WATER ALLOWED???), got our ID wristbands for beer purchasing and ran and got our first beer of the day. It was almost 3pm ( time for BECK), and it seemed like everone there was rusing to this tiny tent to see him perform. Kitty wanted to get souvenir T-shirts right away even though I advised her to wait so she wouldnt have to carry them. She of course did not listen and by the time we got to where BECK was performing, there was no way to see him, as the sea of sweaty bodies swarmed the tent where he be. You could however, definitely hear him if you were quiet and listening and cared. He was playing all the stuff from SEA CHange, his newest album. Unfotunatly for me, I was with my best friend, who had no idea who BECK was and was more concerned with socializing than I was. It was really really HOT, so I sat down on the ground with many other BECK fans to try to listen to his set as best as we could. All I could hear was Kitty's very nice, but now becoming the most annoying voice Id ever heard. I asked her at least 3-5 times nicely to um shut her piehole but to no avail. It must of been the heat, the buzz and the claustrophobia that drove me to stand up, yell at her to shut the blank up and said seeya and turned my back on her and walk straight away. I never turned around to see the look on her face, but I imagined it to be one of shock and more shocked. I left my best friend in a sea of 50, 000 sweaty bodies and never looked back. I know to some of you, I must sound really mean but hey, to all you BECK fans, you know what I did, I have to do. I managed to squeeze in toward the stage and catch his last 2 songs before the set was complete. After the set ended, I started to feel some serious remorse about abandoning my friend, so I found some shade and tried desperately to cell phone her. The lines were all tied up so all I could do was leave a message. I finally left a message telling her to meet me at the BEER stand where we started our day and there I waited for her. An hour had passed before I caught a glimpse of her, walking towards me and to my surprise, she was not alone. to be continued... |
