The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly: Blogs and ForumsJul 19 '04 Write an essay on this topic.

The Bottom Line Can we go beyond reviewing just products and start addressing larger social concerns? We could also review sites built by individuals addressing artistic, scientific, philosophical and social issues.
I suggest that there should be a manner for us to exchange recommendations on *blogs and forums* found here in the web. It could simply be an additional topic category under the Online services but it is also a way that we here in Epinions can enhance the networking aspects of the internet by sharing our personal perspectives and interests. There are already tens of thousands of web blogs and forums that range in quality from exceptional to irrelevant or worse, just plain horrible. The topics are almost as diverse for discussion as the individuals that contribute or the cultures and communities creating these web-zone virtual town squares and criers. I suggest they are definitely worth reviewing and sharing among ourselves. The topics vary widely and some may represent additional products that can also become subject to review. This approach can also address aspects of politics without it becoming the focus of Epinions. For example I have also recommended to no avail that my local town website include a public forum for the promotion of a Virtual Town hall where we can promote Online Democracy and improve our community through more active and extended participation. A place where we can encourage our local politicos to go on record for review and respond to all the constituency. Other communities may have these already in place and by sharing such sites we accelerate the improvement of them, encourage them, correct them faster and learn from one another how create and better our communities. It would then become far easier to promote this form of Virtual Democracy if I learned of it from others here, where it is already working and then could just share it with my community by example. This is not a *product* per se but it is a reality of what is offered in the web and reviewing them here could be considered a public service. I would love some feedback on this suggestion so I look forward to more discussion. If I have been a little vague I apologize but I will gladly address any concerns and work to clarify this idea.
