The Bottom Line I don't care what the people say, he's the matzaballman!
My brother Rich, the matzaballman, turns 23 (give or take a couple few years) today. He is one of the most gregarious, fun-loving, whiz bang boppers of a dude I have ever met. Out of all 12 of us Recchia children, I probably feel the closest to him and we actually talk to each other now and then...
What's so cool about Rich? Well, for starters, he has an awesome record collection. When I was little (he is eight years older), I would spend hours rifling through it. I did some damage to his copy of Jethro Tull "This Was", for which he may still have not forgiven me, but anyway...He used to play "name that tune" with me by pulling out random records and playing them at 78 speed, thus unwittingly preparing me for my upcoming PHD oral examinations.
Other childhood memories: He gave the best shoulder rides of anyone I know, told me bizarre stream of consciousness bedtime stories that I always looked forward to, drew superbly funny cartoons, and sang hilarious original songs like "Landscape", "Sitting on the Farm", "Don't Laugh", and "Chip Off The Old Monk." Oh yeah, he also taught me how to catch a frisbee ("If I was throwing your best friend at you, you wouldn't drop him, now would you?")
As I got older and became a musician in my own right, we wrote some songs together (the best of which was "Burning Down the Church" and maybe "I Lost my English Accent") and played open mikes where we would cover songs like "For Absent Friends" by Genesis and "Desperado" by Alice Cooper. People tell me that I am a good showman but I am nothing compared to Rich, whose booming baritone voice and love of being the center of attention makes him a very entertaining fellow indeed. It's too bad we never started a band together, we would have taken over the world!
Matza, I love you man! I urge you all to wish him a happy birthday and read his reviews.
