Whiteboards Looking Like New with Quartet Clean Erase!
Written: Aug 21 '07
Pros:easy to use, cleans well, virtually no odor, non-toxic
Cons:difficult to find, the MSDS sheet has info that should be on the bottle label
The Bottom Line: A cleaner that works for whiteboards.
I was dismayed to realize that so many of the whiteboards in the company looked dingy, smudged, and unprofessional. I shudder to think how many meetings were held in conference rooms where the whiteboard was anything but white. So when I discovered a bottle of Quartet Clean Erase in the office, it became my new best friend for whiteboard care.
Description & Ingredients
This cleaner comes in an 8 fluid ounce bottle. The plastic bottle has a pump at the top that is operated by pressing a finger down on the pump. To protect the pump nozzle (and prevent accidental spraying of the liquid), there is a clear plastic cover that encloses the pump assembly. Just pull off the plastic cover and press the pump to use the product.
Ingredients: The bottle is marked Earth Safe Formula, Non-Toxic and Odor Free. The product contains, An organic/aqueous cleaner based on the release of molecular bonding energy. No solvents or emulsifiers.
The product is also non-flammable, non-corrosive, and non-abrasive. It is designed to clean and brighten any dry-erase surface (ex: porcelain or melamine). Note: this product is not to be used on chalkboards.
Directions for Use
This is an incredibly easy product to use.
1. Spray product on surface.
2. Wipe Dry with a soft cloth.
I checked the MSDS (Material Safety and Data Sheet) for this product. Even though the product is not labeled with cautions, there are a few on the MSDS.
1. May be harmful is swallowed.
2. Eye irritant.
3. Do not eat, drink or smoke when using product.
4. Wash hands immediately after use.
5. Keep out of the reach of children.
The MSDS also says that this product contains Trisodium Phosphate.
My Experiences
The other day I discovered a whiteboard that had not been cleaned in who knows how long. It was smeared and filthy. I dont know why someone didnt clean it sooner. This is a fancy whiteboard that when not in use has two wooden doors that fold over it. The inside of the wooden doors have a corkboard finish. The conference room where this board is located sees a lot of meetings with internal personnel as well as outside vendors and customers.
I could not believe how effectively this cleaning product worked. The board was so dirty that I had to spray the surface several times with the cleaner, but the grime came away. The board looks like new! This particular whiteboard had marker on it red, green, blue and black. All of those markings came off with the spray and a paper towel.
There is also a whiteboard in another conference room that is new within the last three months. Repeated use created grid lines and ghost lettering on the whiteboard. The eraser removed the writing, but left underlying shadow impressions. This ghost writing is very distracting even when new information is written over it. I was beginning to think the whiteboard was somehow defective.
This Quartet Clean Erase not only removed every spec of marker, but I noticed the gray look of the board (from repeated writing and erasing) begin to brighten. The board actually looked like new in a few minutes!
I like that this cleaner has almost no odor. I have previously used whiteboard cleaners that smelled toxic. This cleaner by Quartet has so little scent that it can be called odorless. I just spray the liquid on the whiteboard and wipe the board clean with a paper towel. If an area needs a bit more cleaning, I just re-spritz the liquid on the spot and wipe the area again. This cleaner works like a charm.
Never has this cleaner irritated my hands or caused any type of reaction. I have a sensitive nose, and my sinuses are okay using this product. When finished cleaning the whiteboards, I always wash my hands with soap and water. Its just a precaution on my part after using any type of cleaner.
Purchasing
When we purchased this cleaner, it sold for around $8.00 a bottle. I notice that it is now difficult to find. Quartet, which is an ACCO brand, has since changed how their Quartet whiteboard cleaners are labeled. Another whiteboard cleaning product from Quartet is called Re-Mark-Able, and an 8 fluid ounce bottle sells for around $9.00.
Summary
I am very pleased with the way Quartet Clean Erase works. The whiteboards always look like new after I spritz some of this liquid onto the boards and wipe it off. I just hope I can find the product again when I need to buy it. From my search on the internet, it appears that very few places now sell this cleaner.
I hope you found this review useful.
Enjoy your day,
Dawn
