Puttin' The Awe Back in Awesome

Jul 21 '04 (Updated Jul 23 '04)

The Bottom Line There's no reason not to.

As 3 o'clock rolled around and the Epinions Boston Meet n' Greet got started, I was still stuck cruising along the Mass Pike en route to the budding shindig. I try to be on time, but planning has never really been one of my best skills. C'est la vi. I pahked the cah and hiked up to third floor of Jillian's, strolled past the bowling alley, and that's where our eyes met. She's not really my type, but I was somehow drawn to her roundish figure and the tiny mouth that dots a nose looking much like an exclamation point. She was a real doll, an Epi-doll, but I was in a hurry. I gave her the casual brush-off and headed into the VIP room where the gathering took place.

I was first greeted by Christal, who is one of the most gorgeous women that I've ever seen outside of a movie. She pointed me to my nametag on the nearby pool table and that's when I heard those words that every man wants to hear a woman say -- "there's free booze and free food." I'm paraphrasing, of course, but that's the gist of it. I'd never actually met anyone from Epinions before, so I glanced around the room. After seeing the rest of the Eps crew - Alexis, Garrett and Paul -- it didn't take me long to realize that being hot is a requirement to work at Epinions. (Incidentally there was also a little bit of flack about Garrett not ordering enough veggie stuff, but the women should have known better. Men only eat vegetables in order to get women to like them and he's already married.)

I wandered over to the table with Mike and Matt. We made small talk about life and I ate way too many egg rolls and sesame chicken strips. Mike is definitely one of the coolest people around; we had a lot in common and talked quite a bit throughout the night and wee morn. I soon came to be distracted and impressed by the size of Aashok's lens. Which reminds me, while we're on the topic, you really need to check out Aashok's profile if you want to see the photographic evidence of all the fun that we had.

Movies and Music peeps were definitely represented in full force in Boston. I got to meet the legendary Kristina, as well as the infamously goofy Marc. Marc's son already has a great appreciation for Epinions. Rumor has it that he may be replacing his dad as the Lead in Movies during the next selection if Kids & Family doesn't pan out for him. What can I say? The kid has potential. Alvin and I talked about everything from science to who knows what. Seriously, I don't remember because my memory is pretty bad and I'd already had a few.

Now it's down to business. I'm sure that everyone wants the scoop on the new guy, Randy. Well, he's one of the happiest people that I've ever met. It's not that annoying in-your-face happiness that you want to swat like a mosquito, but rather that goofy happiness that reminds me a little bit of my cousin. But since you don't know my cousin I guess that doesn't really help, does it? If I were to review him, the bottom line would be "An awesome guy with enough hip energy to put Larry the cucumber to shame." Everyone should congratulate him though, because he put that energy to good use and got his wife pregnant.

Once the main event had cleared away, I bumped into Becky. She's a cute, energetic chiquita with a streak of brutal honesty. She says that I'm not as creepy as I seem on Epinions. So, if you catch me peeping in your window, don't worry because I'm not as creepy as I seem online apparently. She also said that I had a bad profile pic. It's a good thing that I got rid of it last week. But seriously, she's a really cool chick whom I was psyched to meet.

Towards the end, things got a little bit naughty. Kristina couldn't convince Mike to pose in just a towel, but she and Marytara hopped on the pool table. I can only describe it as hotter than anything that I've ever reviewed on Epinions.

I finally got a chance to say hi to my favorite Epinions icon, Doc. It's one of those moments in your life when you're not sure if real life will meet up to your expectations, but Doc is as awesome in real-life as she is online. I had a blast talking to her and enjoyed a couple of drinks afterwards with her, her daughter, Mike and Becky. Then, Becky took Mike and I out for a night of inebriated fun in bean town. It was definitely worth the 45 minute trip into Boston to meet some of the coolest people on Epinions.
