Pros: Good website/automatic payment system.
Cons: Poor Customer Service. Customer service will lie to get you off the phone.
The Bottom Line: Poor customer service when problems arise is a good reason to avoid becoming a customer of GMAC.

| gmacsux's Full Review: GMAC Mortgage |
I refinanced thru a mortgage broker 3 years ago. Then it was sold to GMAC - no problems until August 2007. The measure of a company is how it deals with problems - which is where GMAC gets a 1 out of 5 in my book.
An escrow payment for real estate taxes was supposedly made months ago. Then the tax office informs me the payment was never received and informed me they couldnt provide any receipt that it was received. It turns out they batch multiple tax payments into 1 payment that is sent to each tax office. First they lied to me telling me the problem would be investigated and resolved in 3-5 days. A week later - they tell me it will take another week. This week they tell me it has been sent back to the tax department a second time. The tax is due in 7 days at which point it will be considered delinquent. Ive told them I will get lawyers involved if this damages my credit rating in any way or if GMAC refuses to pay penalties and interest that will begin accruing in 8 days. In talking with the local tax collector they said this issue of combining multiple customer tax payments into 1 large payment is creating more and more problems.
The customer service people are likely not even in the US - 2 sounded like they were in India, the other sounded Mexican. I know many of these companies are outsourcing customer service overseas. I suspect GMAC is doing this. Whichever the case, these people know nothing. All they do is read things off a computer screen like cyborgs.
GMAC has a decent website (though it lacks the transaction history feature that Countrywide does) and the company is ok as long as they dont FUBAR your escrow payments - if they do? Its a nightmare as its customer service department is as effective as a one legged man in a butt kicking contest.
