I rarely partake in write-offs these days but this one interested me despite a few of the questions really being for US citizens only. My contribution to this Say Your Piece W/O write-off 1) Do you believe in science's evolution theory or the Bible's creation theory? I believe both are almost certainly wrong – especially the Bible which I believe I proved in an earlier epistle. Essentially the Bible was written as a story for an essentially illiterate mob. I believe all religious writings to be well meant but none could be taken too seriously. 2) If you believe in the Bible's creation theory do you disbelieve science in other areas such as medical research, geology, astronomy, physics, biochemistry, etc? I don’t need to comment here but I will!! The sciences mentioned attempt to explain the nuts and bolts, the pipes etc that make the human machine run – however they don’t even attempt the big questions – we did we come from, why are we here and where are we going. 3) Why do you think "we are here?" (Why do humans exist?) Humans are a free floating spirit – that is our natural state. For some reason unknown we choose to come into the human form for a brief time (one day or 100 years) and then return to our normal state – that process popularly referred to as dieing. Why we have an apparent need to do this I don’t know but I believe there is a very good reason and we are re-acquainted with it upon our death. 4) Can we ever truly be happy by grasping for material things (cars, houses, CDs, movies, clothes, etc.) or should we be more concerned about affecting/improving others' lives? The word grasping infers some kind of struggle. Without undue turmoil I see no reason we can’t aspire to achieve both. 5) Do you think ADD/ADHD are more a product of environment or genetics? Why do you think ADD/ADHD has become so prevalent in the last 20 or so years? Simply I don’t know but I suspect these conditions are not new – its just that we are beginning to understand them. 6)Are you a Democrat or Republican or something else? Why do you subscribe to that ideology? Obviously being Australian this question is irrelevant to me. However politically I could be described as in the middle – not right or left. 7) George Bush or John Kerry for President? Why? Again being Australian this is basically irrelevant to me – all I ask is this time a fair dinkum election be held – but that is up to US citizens. 8) How do you feel about Ralph Nader getting most of his support from long time Republicans in the form of campaign contributions and signatures to get Nader on the ballot this fall? No idea on this one! 9) Has toppling the regime of Saddam Hussein really made us safer? Or has it infuriated more Muslim fundamentalists and made us a bigger target? The world is safer after showing the extremist terrorists their actions will come at a cost to them. Muslim fundamentalists are as dangerous as the wacky Christian ones. This is not about Religion – Religion is just the excuse. 10) Was the Abu Ghraib torture scandal a big deal to you? Yes because it lowered the coalitions standards – set a poor example. However it won’t effect the outcome. 11) Why has Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind and financier of 9/11, been virtually ignored since the Iraq Invasion began? Well he hasn’t in this country – However getting him will not solve anything. 12) Do you think America should support and/or participate in a possible invasion/attack against Iran? No – at least not at this stage. Ideally it will be dealt with, along with the whole Middle East by the UN. 13) Have you seen or plan on seeing Fahrenheit 9/11? If you've seen it what did you think about it? I intend seeing it! 14) Do you think we, as a nation, are more united or more divided since 9/11? Australia is more united – the USA I wouldn’t have a clue. 15) The Terminator is Governor of California, Madeleine Albright was Secretary of State under President Clinton, and other foreign born American citizens have contributed to this country. Should foreign born American citizens be allowed to run for President? Up to you Yanks – we have no such restriction nor maximum terms. 16) Do you trust the electronic voting machines that will be used in some states this election? Are you serious?? After the last election…..no, thankfully again a USA problem 17) Does the United Nations fill a relevant or necessary role in todays world? Yes, very much so. Admitted the USA was peeved over Iraq but we were over East Timor two years earlier – but neither case diminishes the great work done by the UN 18) Why are you Pro-Choice or Pro-Life? I am pro life because anything else is not my call. To me, a non Christian, life begins at conception and I can’t see whoever/whatever is running this joint would be too happy about this one being interfered with. 19) Why do you support or condemn the death penalty? I condemn the death penalty – because it lowers the community to the same level, provides no deterrent and can lead to some almighty mistakes. 20) Any final thoughts or feelings? Nope – the above will get me into enough trouble :)
