The Bottom Line Don't buy into the hype
A couple of years ago, when cell phones were just starting to make their way onto everybody’s must-have list, this rumor started going around about how cell phones were causing brain tumors. I call it a rumor because as of yet, I have neither seen nor heard any real proof of this. I’ll admit that the technology hasn’t been around that long. Cell phones, at least in their current form, haven’t been around for more than 25 years at most and do rely on airwaves and energy for communication. We may never fully understand the implications of the technology for another 25 years. However, considering the widespread use of cell phones, I think we would have noticed an epidemic by now. We know diseases are a problem because we can work out how they are spread. (Whether you want to say they are caused by germs or evil spirits is your own business.) There are no cell-phone wards in hospitals. There are no celebrities raising money for orphans of cell-phone radiation. No one has filed a class action lawsuit over second-hand cell-phone radiation. Personally, I think that driving while talking on your cell phone is more of a risk than the radiation. Also, think of what constant chatter on your cell phone does to your social life. Hang up and do something else.  |
