Late on April 2007 I placed an online order for a top-of-the line, overclocked computer from CyberPower Inc. My experience has been extremely negative and disappointing, and I truly regret not checking these reviews before I placed my very expensive order. Like many others have experienced before me, I feel dissatisfied and frustrated by this purchase. Beware of CyberPower, and please consider other manufacturers before ordering for them.
Timeline of events:
In April I placed an order for an overclocked Intel Quad computer, a very expensive model that seemed to be marketed at a more affordable price than any of its competitors. Their website is very helpful, and the process of customizing your computer online is a breeze. After much debate and comparisons, I placed the order, which was close to $3000.
After waiting for weeks with no updates, I called CyberPower to inquire about the status of my order. I am told they are still waiting for some parts. I ended up receiving my computer almost 4 weeks later than promised.
From the moment I turned on my new computer, everything went south. Constant system failures, unexpected blue screen of death crashes, frustrating freezes. The computer would crash on average 4 or 5 times a day.
I called CyberPowers customer service to get some help, only to be dismissed by a very rude representative who claimed I was doing it all wrong and that I had no idea what I was doing. He didnt even answer my questions, yet he yelled at me on the phone in arrogant tones. When I asked him that I wanted to talk to his supervisor, he claimed he had none. BTW, he claimed his name was Junior.
Frustrated, I called again and explained I was expecting the help they promised when they sell you a computer (an alleged 3-year guarantee). The so-called customer service representative told me to reformat the HD and install the OS from scratch. Apparently thats their answer for everything.
I did reformat the hard drive and reinstalled the OS to no avail. All the same problems were there. The computer kept crashing fatally several times a day. I just couldnt get anything done on this PC. I called the customer service once again, only top be told to reformat the HD and reinstall the OS. I informed him I had already done that, and then he suggested I upgrade the drivers using teh CD that came with my computer.
I ended up going to the websites for the manufacturers of each component and updating each driver individually, because the drivers they sent me in the disk that came with my Cyberpower computer were old, outdated, and not compatible with any modern OS. I spent two weeks painstakingly updating every driver, flashing the MOBO and fine-tuning every aspect of the computer, something they were SUPPOSED to do before shipping me this very expensive product. Their QA process is lacking, which leads them to ship products unfit for proper usage.
After I updated my system, I lost the ability to overclock my computer. I requested help from CyberPower to return my machine to factory speed. Its been two weeks now. No answer yet.
This is how long it took to get my computer stable enough to function:
- Ordered it in late April.
- Received it in mid-to-late May.
- Finally got it working semi-properly in August.
- Still, no overclocking.
Overall, I am truly dismayed at the lack of interest on their customers or the products they sell. Their customer service is appalling, and overall they ship computers that are not ready for everyday usage, as their quality assurance is evidently lacking.
Cyberpower? NEVER AGAIN!
