The Bottom Line Get past the name and try one of these sticks - you won't be disappointed.
As a relative newbie to cigars, I've been tempted, as I'm sure all new cigar smokers are, to the world of flavored cigars. I started my experiments hich some of the popular brands such as Havanna Honeys. I quickly found that the flavors were overpowering and just too sweet for my tastes. In fact, I noticed with a lot of the brands that after a toke or two, my lips were stick from the sugars in the cigar. I abandoned the search for a flavored cigar and stuck the the classics. That is until I read an article on Acid cigars... There is a lot of marketing huppla surrounding Acid cigars - from the talk of the secret rolling facilities to the infusion rooms to the never before seen flavor technics. I'll be honest, the first time I read the article I figured that the marketing was just that - marketing. Since that reading, curiosity has led me to try a number of the Acid brand cigars. I've tried Blondies, Nasty, Kaluha, and Kuba Kuba to name a few of those sampled. And let me tell you, they are in fact different than the typical flavored cigars. for the most part, the flavors are equally intense, but without the sprayed on taste. The cigars truly seem to have the flavor "brewed" into them rather than being applied through some dipping method. For the typical cigar smoker, the Acid line will still be a little too sweet. A second line from Dew Estate (the maker of Acids) is the Natural line. These provide a flavored cigar, but with the sweetnes somewhat subdued. Instead of oeverpowering the cigar, these flavors are subtle and enhance the overall flavor. My favorite so far (I've sample 18 of the various Acid and Natural lines so far) is the Pimp Stick. The initial response I get from everyone is probably the same reaction you have right now... Pimp Stick sounds like some stupid gimmick for the kids.. and you're probably right. But, there is no denying that this is one good cigar. It's taking a lot of arm twisting to convince my cigar snob friends to ever consider a puff. Most will refuse the cigar on principle alone - " a flavored cigar with a stupid name, please!" The flavoring of the cigar is perfectly balanced so that the cigar flavor is porminent, but with little aftertaste. The flavoring in the cigar is almost unnoticeable until you realized that the cigar is extremly smooth tasting. Along with the great taste, the cigar is constructed as you would expect from Drew Estate. constructed perfectly for a nice even burn. I've smoked a box and haven't had a single problem with one. In fact, I've never had a problem with any cigar from Drew Estate. The cigar is a stunning double torpedo (tappered at both ends). Its a bigger size than most at 6" and a 52 ring guage. The filler is created from various strains of Dutch tobaccos, long fillers cultivated from the black soil of Esteli, Nicaragua. The wrapper is a gorgeous, toothy Cameroon. I've had plenty of Cameroon, but this one is in a league by itsel. |
