Haven't seen it and don't know, but you should go ahead and make your own criteria and list!

as a "rock-n-roll" movie, and if it does, whether it may be considered for the list.

Fun with lists part 39 and a three-quarters (Reply to this comment)
by Stephen_Murray, in Movies
It's Eddie (Meatloaf) who justified including "Rocky." There are no rock performers represented in "JC Superstar" as rock performers. Besides, the only hit song "JC Superstar" is not rock, and the other one that I remember is dubiously rock.
I like doo-wop, Phil Spector's Philadelphia "wall of sound," Motown, and Otis Redding. If I were stretching from rock commodification to consumption, "Carwash" would be on the list.

Gee, no Josie and the Pussycats? Hahaha. I just reviewed one you'd probably like to include here.

Fun with lists part 39 and a half. (Reply to this comment)
by ChrisJarmick
Mostly I gotcha' as in I understand
Except I'm unclear what you mean by this...
In the category of movies that I like but that don't fit my criteria:
You mean the doo wop ish score of Little Shop doesn't fit, but the couple of songs from Rocky Horror that are slightly rock n rollish make the that movie fit?
Jesus Christ Superstar has a pop rop score, as valid as Rocky Horror
So I'm not sure I get what you mean.
Anyway... most of the ones you haven't seen are worth a look. Wiggstock and Rock n Roll Highschool being on the lower end to be sure.
That'll be the Day and Star Dust being on the upper end.
Performance is an extremely interesting film too.
Always something more to see.
Lists are just SO much FUNNNNN.!!!

Whew!
First, as should be obvious, I prefer rock from before my time to rock after my time. I also prefer soul/r&b and reggae to rock, especially punk.
I loathe Don't Look Back (elaborated at www.epinions.com/content_73541324420)
Hedgwig and the Angry Inch
Tommy
I don't much like
Velvet Goldmine
Paris Is Burning
Grease
I think I explained my preference for "A Hard's Day's Night" to"Help!"
I love The Harder They Come! It be reggae, tho.
In the category of movies that I like but that don't fit my criteria:
All That Jazz.
The Little Shop of Horrors (both the musical version and the original)
The Girl Can't Help It
Woodstock
Jesus Christ Superstar
Bye, bye, Birdy
don't remember (and, thus, must be unmemorable!)
Une femme es un femme
or much about Monterrey Pop
Performance
The Rose
Rock Around the Clock
I haven't seen:
That'll be the Day
High School Confidential
Star Dust.
Faster Pussycat Kill Kill (catchy title, though)
Stop Making Sense
Last Waltz (some day...)
Wigstock: The Movie
Shag: The Movie
Quadrophenia
Yellow Submarine
Sid and Nancy
Rock N Roll Highshool

Choices too easy.... (Reply to this comment)
by ChrisJarmick
Nothing wrong with that and you do an okay job... I just want better from you!!!
Strange category to deal with when you have to kind of weed out Saturday Night Fever and perhaps Sid and Nancy and Rock N Roll Highshool since they are more punk than Rock and roll. And I guess you skipped The Harder They Come because its reggae not R&R.
Dissapointed to see Almost Famous a very phony movie on several levels included here as one of your faves. I mean Grease would have been better than that one...
Surprised you didn't mention Absolute Beginners, Performance, Quadrophenia, Yellow Submarine, Help, Purple Rain, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Rose, Shag: The Movie.
And if you go with Rocky Horror AND Priscilla then why not Hedgewick and Paris Is Burning, Wigstock: The Movie, The Velvet Goldmine,
Understand with your clarification on American Graffitti why a few others aren't here (Carny would be another).
And there's no Stop Making Sense or Last Waltz or Woodstock or Monterrey Pop or Don't Look Back etc. which aren't here for obvious reasons.
You could have snuck in All That Jazz.... several pop-rock songs are in that one.
And you include Cry Baby and Hairspray without even mentioning The Girl Can't Help It or High School Confidential? You might have even tried Faster Pussycat Kill Kill. John Waters would be disappointed. You don't have to put them on your list but to just ignore the inspiration for so much camp and silliness....
The Little Shop of Horrors musical was a blast.
You might snuck in A Woman is a Woman -- a stretch but you're entitled to a stretch or two.
What no Head or 200 Motels ? Seriously though it is a pity you just completely over-looked a couple of gems: 1974's That'll be the Day and particularly 1975's Star Dust.
Glad to see the mention of Phantom of Paradise.
Rock On.

Re: What? (Reply to this comment)

Hey! I mention "American Graffiti" in explaining that my list is about the making and selling of rock music, not just consumption of it in movies with outstanding soundtracks.
I do think that Lou Diamond Phillip was excellent in "La Bamba" and Esai Morales was even better. I wish both had had and would have bettern roles since then.
I haven't seen (and don't want to see!) "Sid and Nancy," though I'm sure the acting in it is first-rate.

No Blackboard Jungle? American Graffiti? I'm surprised you liked Lou Diamond Phillips' performance enough to make it #1. Thanks for the ink, bro!

Rock and Roll Movies (Reply to this comment)
by brendan2, in Movies
I really enjoyed reading your list, and I was happy to see La Bamba, which has been one of my favorites for years. It was nice to see that you mentioned Cry Baby, which isn't that well-known but is still a pretty good movie. Another musical biography I like is Sid and Nancy, about Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols.
Anyway, great list and thanks for the mention!
