Pros:stacking containers that stay in place, translucent tinted-fronts to select from
Cons:Who knew I had this many shoes. I may have to purchase another drawer.
The Bottom Line: A wonderful way to organize shoes ... or whatever else needs a large drawer.
These drawers are terrific for holding my shoe collection. If you read my other shoe container review, youll know that I searched for the ideal solution that works best for me. The Container Store offered me the way to organize my shoes with their Large Tint Stacking Drawers.
Description
These are large drawers that measure 8 1/8" high x 15 3/4" wide x 19 3/4" deep. A nice feature of these drawers is that they come in a variety of tints. The top and bottom of the drawers have a white frame. The sides of the unit are a clear/frost, meaning they are somewhat see-through but not completely clear. I purchased the clear drawers so that the front of the drawer offers complete visibility to the drawers contents. However, there are also semi-translucent color tints that allow partial visibility. The colors offered are: blue, pale orange, pink, light purple, green, and a smoke color.
These drawers are meant to stack one atop the other. They are large enough to fit shirts, pants, sweaters, shoes, toys, craft supplies and other accessories. My local Container Store had every tint available and stacked for easy viewing.
My Experiences
Since I had such a bad experience with my previous shoe drawer purchase at the Container Store (a link to the review is listed below) ... this time I brought a pair of shoes with me. This made all the difference in selecting the best organizing method for me. I ultimately chose to buy six of these drawers.
I own a piece of wood furniture that has been with me for years; it holds t-shirts and other clothing. It is sturdy and has four drawers in it, and the piece stands about three feet tall. I measured the top of this furniture since I wanted to buy containers to stack on top of it. These large tinted drawers are the perfect size. I couldnt have custom-built anything to fit better.
When I arrived home, I placed a piece cloth atop the wood to protect the finish and stacked the six containers vertically. The containers are made so that they nestle atop the container below, assuring that they wont move when opening and closing the drawers.
I wear a size 9 to 9 1/2 shoe in a wide width. Normal shoe containers did not work well since my shoe size often did not fit in them. These containers are the best investment! Each drawer holds between three to six pairs of shoes, depending on shoe style. I organized my shoes by color and/or purpose. I didnt realize I own so many black shoes (they fill two drawers). Sand/tan color shoes are in another drawer. Sneakers fill yet another drawer, and sandals and pumps have their own drawers. Since these drawers have a clear front, I can see the color of the shoes or the type of shoe to know which drawer to open.
These drawers dont open as easily as my previous shoe drawers from the Container Store. Those drawers opened as if skating on ice. However, these drawers work great. Each drawer has a 1" lip along the front as a finger grip. Slide the fingers under the lip and pull out the drawer. Even the drawer at the bottom of my vertical stack opens fine.
The way these drawers are designed, the outer frame supports much of the weight. I have had no issues with cracking plastic. These drawers have been in use for over six months now and look as good as they day they were purchased. Since they are constructed of smooth plastic, they are easy to maintain. A swipe of a duster keeps them clean. If needed, a damp cloth will do other clean-up.
Purchasing
Each of these drawers cost $14.99 at my local Container Store.
Summary
These Large Tint Stacking Drawers are the best shoe organizing purchase I have made. They do exactly what I need them to, and they look great in the room!
I hope you found this review useful.
