!Spoilers! Maybe you're right. However it was only Charlie who disobeyed him, he didn't have to shoot his whole gang. I would have preferred it if the ending was a shoot out between the gang and the five captors instead of 30 on 1.

I'm not quite sure you understood the ending. He didn't shoo them simply because "he wanted to get hung". There were numberous reasons why he shot them. First of all, they disobeyed his orders. Wade commanded his gang to stop shooting at Bale, yet they kept on fireing. Second of all, Wade had some good in him, which is first hinted by Bale's son. Thirdly, Dave knows he will manage to escape Yuma prison, hinted by him whistling at his horse. Fourth, he began to respect Bale, and the entire situation was basically a test of will from Dave to Bale.
Anyways, interesting opinion and fantastic review.
