Although this is a remake of the original musical, I highly recommend Hairspray. The casting was wonderful! Michelle Pheifer is beautiful as always and perfect for the meany, manipulative role. Newcomer Nikki Blonsky, who used to work for Cold Stone Creamery,played Tracy Turnblad. Amanda Bynes was great as the best friend. Zac Efron looked so young for the part but he did pull it off. The songs are very catchy and the dancing was great. The main driving force for Tracy is to dance in the Corny Collins TV Show. James Marsden of the X-Men fame played Corny Collins. Although Tracy is on the heavy side, this is one determined and outspoken girl. She eventually got was she always wanted which is to dance and sing on the Corny Collins Show. Also, not to miss is John Travolta's performance as Tracy's mom, Edna Turnblad, the typical overprotective mother. Christopher Walken plays Tracy's dad who owns a novelty store located downstairs in their home.
Bring your daughters and nieces, especially the tweens and teens since they will surely love and appreciate the movie. Wholesome and funny!!! It talked about stereotypes and racial discrimination but its a real feel good movie in the end.
