I would like to bring attention to the following comment.
It can be found in 3 places. Here, on Goober's latest mattress review and on my Day care piece.

Hi. My name is Meagan. Two years ago, I fell head over heels in love with a website called "epinions." Part of the beauty of the site is the diversity of voices and personalities all coming together with the common goal of helping consumers to make purchasing decisions while improving their writing and making a little fun money at the same time.
Sometimes though, people disagree about the best way to uphold the integrity of the site. At times, flame wars ensue. This comment section is one example of that. If people hadn't taken this comment section to their profile pages, I would probably just continue to sit back and eat my popcorn and see the true colors of the contributers shine. But since people are hell bent on "taking this outside," I will tell you that I'm going to submit a formal request to community care to make this comment section invisible. It may not get me anywhere, but like Sue, I wish to keep the bull out of the end user's experience.
Say what you will, but anyone who truly cares about what's best for the community would be able to see why I might want to do this.
I do hope you find a more appropriate forum with which to air your grievances about the site or about particular members. May I suggest email or some place outside of the epinions.com domain? Unless your end goal is just to flame people, you shouldn't mind that at all.

Hee! If that's hypocrisy, I'm all over it. Problems are not fun. Tiaras, on the other hand, are uber-fun. I saw one today, in fact - actually on someone's head no less - with some big giant stone right at the center. I covet the tiara, but not the fact that the woman was contractually required to wear it in public...

I'm not taking any side in this feud. Smorg's profile page wasn't the issue I was addressing - williampinn's comments were. Whatever "pact" all of you might have is none of my business - but when a comment is made that appears to be pushing people to change their WOTs based on grudges and flame wars, you need to understand that no one else knows about your "pact". They will take your words at face value. If you have a private "pact", the application of that "pact" should remain private as well.
You can demonize me in any way you choose - but look at the reality - these are two presumably grown men acting like children. One with a profile page tantrum, one with site wide comment tantrums. The only reason I stepped up here is because people telling others who to trust gets under my skin in a major way - and it's in someone else's comment section to boot.
You ask what I would do if I were on that "block" page - you're right, I wouldn't like it. Any more than I like the ten or so personal insults williampinn has decided to toss at me here. But I can't control what anyone says or does, only how I act.
Which is what I would suggest he (or any of you, actually) do. Instead of repeating the exact behavior that caused the rift to begin with over and over and over again, there are steps that can be taken to address the issue on his end. A note to Epinions requesting that the offending portion of the profile page be removed is a first step. And before anyone decries Epinions as never doing anything about anything, I know without question that people have been asked to remove content from their profile pages in the past.
I'm not on smorg's side. I'm not on williampinn's side. The whole thing is utterly ridiculous. My only stake here is in what's good for the site and the movie section. This kind of crap isn't good for anyone.
If you all want to hate me because williampinn has decided I'm evil incarnate, I can't change your minds. But look at this all from my position - I'm tasked with keeping an eye on the Movies section and trying to keep it as healthy as possible. That means I don't get to play nice every minute, and it does mean that when I see something that I think is wrong *in the section itself* I feel like I should say something. I decided to do so here because the page is not visible to non-members, keeping this all contained in a way not to leave a black mark on the entire section.
Dealing with problems within the section is not fun. I don't enjoy being threatened or insulted any more than anyone else. Unlike the rest of you, part of my job is to deal with situations exactly like this. Before you get too high on all your horses about what a horrible, nasty, evil CL I am, try to imagine yourself in the same position. It's not as black and white as you all want it to be.
And don't make the mistake of thinking that smorg's behavior has gone unnoticed.
Now you should all have a tiara - everything looks brighter when you don your sparkly headgear. I think it's the natural light of twinkling gems - it does wonders for the skin.

My Input: (a humorous attempt at how lame my review layouts are) Yes I can poke fun at myself...everyone should learn to do this really. It's fun.
I wanted to state to Millinocket... gee I hope I spelt that right, cuz I am clearly not a perfectionist :)... but you should note that Pinn never pressured me, or attacked me to remove anyone from my woooot woooot. However if me n' pinn ever had an epi fight, I would not under any circumstances publicly (did I spell that right?) display it on my homepage.
Milli I ask you, how would you feel if someone just added your name to their webpage and accused you of such crimes?
Say someone came across you leaving a SH rate, yet you gave reasons as to WHY you left the rate.... then that person went back and accused you on their page of being a revenge rater. How would you take it?
I am sure many folks removed Pinn from their WOTs after the little display on the smorg page.
So even if Pinn 'did' attempt to get folks to remove smorg, wouldn't it be sort of fair? Like tit for tat, eye for eye... all that good stuff?
Hell I am sure smorg succedded in getting folks to add pinn to their block list, let alone remove him from their WOT.
That's just my take. I'm surprised epi didn't shut that page down, because Milinocket, until the accusitions are removed from the page, this argument/fight will continue. Pinn is just fighting for what he feels is right, no matter how many comment sections it sprawls into.
Hell if someone threw my name up on their page with accusations I would be doing the same... I'd most likely attack anyone who stood in my way too...that's just human nature. Can you blame him!?
Now... We need someone to sew up some TEAM PINN and TEAM SMORG shirts to hand out to their fans....because like it or not, both these guys have fans.
You're comments though show me which shirt you will be choosing...as do mine.

Apparently, williampinn, you will talk yourself in circles forever rather than suck it up and admit that you breached common sense Epinions etiquette by trying to get others to untrust smorg.
My job is not to just be objective, my job is to be an advocate. For the members and the site. I don't care about your baby-fight with smorg. I do care about the manners that most of us know instinctively and others generally pick up within a few weeks of joining the human race. And one of those manners is that people don't get to tell other people who to like. It's simply unacceptable behavior, especially in grown-ups.
I don't care if you don't like smorg. I don't care if you don't like me. I don't care if you don't like the Queen of England. As long as you aren't trying to tell other people that they should take concrete steps to prove to you that they don't like any of them either. That's called "crossing a line".
That your part of this discussion has devolved to you pointing your grubby five-year-old finger and calling "liar", "boring", "no class" so quickly is once again disappointing, but I'm sorry to say not unexpected.
You may call me all the names you like. You may try to "throw me headfirst into the outhouse", you may put this entire thread into an essay on how abused you are so someone might come along and pat you on the back, but the truth is in the words. Your words:
Shmoo1, rkingfish, etc., your complaints are noted. Perhaps goober has been dishonorable. But I note that you trust smorg--a guy who defames other members. Smorg is also a major trust slut. Perhaps you are not aware of these facts or you don't care.
Perhaps we are just a bunch of vain a**holes. As long as our ratings boots are licked, we look the other way when the rater is less than perfect. As soon as we get a bad rating, the CSI investigation begins.
If I am wrong, prove it. It will be interesting to see if any of you knock smorg off your WOTs. I will be sitting in the corner quietly holding my breath.
Note that I've placed the proper emphasis on the relevant section.
If others don't mind your behavior, that's fine with me, too. But I do. And now I've had my say, you've whined and denied and cried wolf and called names all in order to avoid admitting to a mistake, so I'm done. You don't want to discuss anything, you want only to be right and the simple truth is that you aren't. You did something nasty and you can't admit it.
