My husband and I went to see "The Others" this past weekend, and it was, indeed, an experience. I wasn't even wanting to see this movie, and had no interest in it, at all. However, the movie I did want to see was no longer showing, so, because of timing, we chose "The Others".
When asked if she had seen the movie, the ticket taker told us, enthusiastically, YES! She thought it was a good movie, but it was slow and you had to pay attention.
She was right on the money.
For those looking for a "Scary Movie" you picked the wrong movie.
For those looking for blood guts, and graphic violence, you have, for sure, picked the wrong movie.
However, for those with patience, insight, and a love of the deep, suspenseful type of terror that can only be born of shadows and mystery, you are in the right place at the right time.
I do not frighten easily. Yet, on two separate occasions while watching this movie I grabbed my husband's thigh and almost jumped from my seat.
I also like to consider myself an insightful viewer, with an instinct about what is going to happen, or who done it, so to speak. An example would be that during "The Sixth Sense" I knew Bruce Willis' character was dead within 10 minutes of film. Shocking ending? What shocking ending? Who didn't see that coming?
Let me be the first to say, I did not see this ending coming. It was a total, and complete shock, and I loved it!
