Deceiving Low Odor Label -- but It Writes Nice
Written: Sep 11 '07 (Updated Sep 11 '07)
Pros:nice dark black color, easy to hold and use, cap fits tightly, erases well
Cons:horrible smell
The Bottom Line: This Expo2 dry erase marker works well, but we have problems tolerating the smell.
Our office is disenchanted with the Expo2 Dry Erase Marker in Black. Weve had some experiences lately that have made us rethink this purchase.
Description
This is a wide marker with a 3/4 diameter, and it is 4 3/4 long. The cap is black to indicate the color, and the cap fits on the back of the marker.
This marker has a chisel tip and non-toxic ink. The marker has writing on it that says: Conforms to ASTM D4236, Non-Toxic. These Expo2 markers are designed for use on whiteboards, glass and non-porous surfaces.
Our Experiences
After taking an office poll, we have decided that these markers are definitely not low odor. We are wondering what Expo compared these markers to in order to make that claim. Wherever these markers are used (and we have a lot of whiteboards in the office), they leave an odor in the air. If you are familiar with that distinctive dry erase marker smell, then you know the odor I mean. It smells nasty. The odor is so bad that I and several co-workers instantly get headaches when exposed to the smell.
I dont want you to think these markers are all bad, though. The ink writes in a beautiful dark black color. And the ink dries quickly without smearing. The chisel tip has kept its shape, too. The cap fits tightly on the marker, both at the front and the back. The cap does require a good pull to remove it, and it squeaks. If I am in a quiet room, removing that cap sounds loud.
This marker fits well in the hand, too. None of us have a problem writing with it. It's great that the cap fits in the end of the marker so that we don't have to worry about losing track of it.
The markers work well and last a long time. We cant fault how they perform. The black color even erases good from the whiteboard. However, we just cant get beyond that horrible smell.
Purchasing
A package of a dozen of these black markers costs just under $14.00.
Summary
While we like the rich black color of these dry erase markers, due to the noxious smell, I doubt the office will purchase them again. There has to be a dry erase marker that doesnt cause an instant headache from the smell.
I hope you found this review useful.
